Episode Notes

Cody uses his catch phrase "Gotta Love that" for the first time.

Frank's full name is revealed to be Franklin Delano Lambert

An interesting side note to this episode is the fact that guest star Al Molinaro has played virtually the same role on no fewer than three sitcoms. He was an owner of a diner on Happy Days and the short-lived spin off Joanie Loves Chachi as well. So this guest stint was perfect for the always loveable Al.

Episode Quotes

Dana: Guess what I got today?
JT: I don't know Barky, a matching leash and collar?

Dana: I get paid to pretend I'm not related to JT? Talk about your dream job.

JT: Carol I just wanna say that Dana is a slime sucking bottom feeding barrell of pond scum.
Carol: That is my daughter you're talking about.
JT: I know, thats why I cleaned it up.

Cultural References

Punisher: Cody is reading a the comic book in the first scene of this episode.

American Graffiti: In the scene where Frank and Carol first arrive at 'The 50's Cafe', Carol makes a direct reference to the movie, saying the diner reminded her off the movie. Frank then comments that he's still looking for the blond in the white t-bird from the movie. Referencing Suzanne Somers role in that all-time classic. To which Carol replies that he should keep looking and he might find her.

Ozzie and Harriet: JT mentions the classic sitcom briefly when referencing his uniform at the 50's Cafe.

Happy Days: This reference was rather obvious. When Joe Passarelli (Al Molinaro) opens the door to welcome the DJ he hired, Cody (in a leather jacket) comes screaming in on his motorcycle and slides to a stop inside the door. Much like Fonzie had famously done numerous times on Molinaro's former series, Happy Days.

Wizard of Oz: Frank references the 'Land of Oz' when trying to talk some sense into Dana over her actions at work. Saying a large house would land on her if it were the Land of Oz.

Analysis

Another episode...another trip on the loony train

The SBS writers are never one to leave out characters when making them go from rational to insane at warp speed. Usually it's Frank, Carol and JT. But in this episode we get Dana doing her power trip at the 50's cafe.

I guess no one in this family learns their lessons (JT especially) but why would Dana think that treating her own family like garbage would be a good thing? It is though built into the Dana character that's she bossy and pushy and with that in mind you can sorta understand why the writers figured this was the natural direction this episode should take. And for once...I agree.

Dana built in agressiveness was a perfect fit for the job and although she was a bit over the top with the "Rush 24/7" thing, it was actually understandable in the realm of things.
