It was during their vacations in Jamaica, contractor Frank Lambert and widowed beautician Carol Foster get married. When they return to their hometown, Port Washington, Wisconsin, they need to slowly introduce their very different children. Their plan is to make the children think they are dating but Frank accidentally tells the truth (that they are married) and there is nothing to hide so eventually the Lamberts move to the Foster's house. Later, as a sign of "step-maternal" love, Carol believes Al is having a pain that is hurting her (something Frank never believed) and she takes her to the hospital; the pain results to be a appendix and they remove it.
Frank wants to take Carol to an expensive restaurant; but Carol has agreed to be on the committee of Al's dance. After being dumped by a boy, Al stays in the dumps until she's rescued by Mark's science fair pen pal: Steve Urkel. And since Frank can't take Carol out, he shows up at the school dance and finds a way to work in a little romance anyway.
Carol notices the lack of discipline in her new children, and sets about creating order by instituing new rules. Al doesn't take it very well, and threatens to go live with her (paternal) Grandmother, in Milwaukee.
Carol finds that a one month anniversary is just not important to some people. JT's cousin (Frank's Nephew Cody) comes to visit. Seeing an opportunity to make money out of his sister, Dana. JT bets Cody $20 that he can't get a date with Dana.
JT doesn't seem cut out for the carpententry business, but much to Carol's delight (and Frank's frustration) he does just fine as her shampoo boy.
The Lamberts enter the 16th annual Port Washington family games, but the Fosters aren't the most athletic family in the world and the competition gets a little too emotional.
Brandon has his 6th birthday at the same time as his NEW Mom and dad decide to RE-marry.
When her favorite singer comes to town, Dana, against Carol's wishes, sneaks out to go to the night club.
The Fosters and the Lamberts go on a camping trip that leaves them, literally, 20 miles from civilization.
The family gets an answering machine to prevent lost messages. However, the machine erases messages after they've been played for the first time.
The Foster-Lamberts get visitors when a TV company arrive to do a special about blended families.
Carol buys a new car from a friend of Frank's, coincidently JT needs a car for a hot date.
Carol reorganizes Frank's office by computerizing his filing system. Dana and the kids make contact with other life forms.
Frank and Carol go on a romantic holiday and the kids throw a party
Al learns to play the drums and Dana gets to drive for the first time.
One of the kids at school is causing problems for the geeky member of the Foster-Lambert household.
Al's NEW all-girl band (Chicks with Attitude) finally gets a gig but needs two new members when some of the regulars get sick.
Carol goes back to college, and tries to run the family at the same time. Leading to a major burnout.
One of Carol's clients invites her and the family to the Port Washington Country Club for a visit. The thought being that the Foster-Lambert's would make great members. That's quickly proven to be incorrect as Frank becomes a handyman, Al runs a money making scheme and Cody puts on an impromptu concert.
Meanwhile, Dana hits it off with one of the club's younger membbers, but is horrified by Frank's 'handyman' work.
Frank's father, Bill, comes for a visit and brings along with him his NEW fiance. A woman that Frank quickly recognizes as a stripper. But once he relays this news to his father, the news isn't well recieved.
Meanwhile, JT is desperate to meet Dana's hot friend and in his desperation he agrees to be Dana's slave for an entire week in exchange for an introduction.
Frank turns 40 and Carol is convinced he's gonna go through a mid-life crisis so she hires a plane and gets him flying lessons. Meanwhile, Cody and JT get Frank a new shower head for his birthday and make the mistake of trying to install it themselves.
When Frank becomes the emcee of the Mallard Lodge Annual Mother-Daughter beauty contest, Karen decides to enter and drafts her mother Carol with her. Along the way Carol gets hit on by one of Frank's fellow Mallard's and later Karen gets the same treatment.
Meanwhile, Cody becomes the newest member of the lodge and crafts a duck out of a block of Wisconsin cheddar.
Dana is shocked and upset when Cody scores higher than she does on the SAT's. Leading her to demand a re-test (scored by Carol) that ends up with strikingly similar results.
Meanwhile, Frank installs a security device on his closet after the kids keep borrowing his clothes without asking.
Carol and Frank confront JT's English teacher about her unfair grading practices after Frank spends all night helping JT prepare for an essay on Hamlet.
Frank's jealousy rears it's ugly head when he sees Al mooning over her friend's Dad. A man who played in the Superbowl. This leads Frank to respond in the only way he knows how...with a stupid show of Macho.
Meanwhile, JT's never ending quest for booty has him paying Karen for a makeover so he can impress a new girl.
JT and Cody get their own cable access show, JT's World, and invite Karen's friend, Lisa to be the guest on the first episode. Problem is JT gets mad when Lisa like Cody more than him.
Meanwhile, Carol ropes Frank into take taking a compatibility test and gets mad (naturally) when Frank answers the first question wrong.
Al and Brendan convince a reluctant Carol to let them take care of the neighbors dog. A huge dog that first has Carol regretting her decision. But she soon turns to adoring the over sized pooch, while Mr. Fritz drives the rest of the family crazy.
Dana, JT and Karen get a job at a 50's themed restaurant that just opened. Dana as the Assistant Manager and the others working the tables with Cody as the DJ. Problem is Dana soon lets the power go to her head and has both her sister and step-brother quit on her mid-shift.
Karen gets her big break and secures a modeling job in the Windy city. Forcing a showdown between her and the ever overprotective Carol. A battle Karen wins and off to Chicago the two go. The perfect platform for Carol to play stage mother (and she does).
Meanwhile, back at the house, Frank is saddled with first taking care of a flu ridden Dana and then an entire house full of sick kids as one aftter another they too come down with it.
Frank is concerned when Dana accepts a date with an older guy widely rumored to pressure girls into having sex. Prompting Cody and him to spy on Dana's date which ends up at suck-face hill.
Meanwhile, JT persuades Brendan to do his chore of waxing Frank's truck, but has him use a cheap, off-brand product that eats the paint.
Dana's running for student class President and as it turns out she isn't the most exciting of candidates and that draws JT into the race. With Frank and Carol remaining neutral (for three seconds or so). The race soon has the Foster-Lambert clan divided along family lines.
When Frank's cholesterol test result is high, Carol puts him on a healthy diet plan. JT and Cody double date with sisters who have a reputation for being easy, but Cody shocks JT when he chooses to remain pure rather than go back to the girls' place at the end of the night.
Carol cuts all luxuries from the family budget when an overdue rental video she finds under Brendan's bed costs the family over $80 in fees. The other kids blame Brendan for causing the severe new policy, and he runs away from home.
Frank's old friend, a slacker named Scooter Randolph, comes for a visit. Upsetting Carol when she sees the bad influence he's having on the children.
Cody inherits $250,000 when a friend of his named Walter, a resident at the local retirement home, dies unexpectedly. What follows is predictable chaos as everyone of the kids propose ideas for what they think Cody should do with the money.
Frank and Carol veto Dana's plan to have her 17th birthday, without them in attendance. But she has it anyway, by renting a hotel room. Meanwhile, Cody is asked to mediate a dispute between Al and Karen over a ruined blouse.
Frank hires a new worker, a woman, a VERY attractive woman. A woman who makes Carol insanely jealous. Meanwhile, the kids talk Cody into investing the money they've pooled together.
JT and Cody get word that their show is possibly gonna be picked up by a large syndicator. Prompting JT to get the big head and fire half of his family to make the new Prpducer happy. Problem is no one apparently read the contract.
Meanwhile, Carol and Frank try to find time to spend together and it leads them to an art class. A nude modeling art class which leaves Frank jealous.
Dana is dumped by her boyfriend right before Valentine's Day, and, not to surprisingly, takes out her frustrations on everyone. Meanwhile, Frank gets a temporary job at Carol's hair salon.
The family wins a trip to Hawaii (with Cody tagging along). Carol plays chaperon and drives everyone crazy in her attempt to see ALL of the island's historical sites. Later, Dana finds a love interest, Cody and JT chase gold, Frank tries to get Carol to relax and Mark,. Brendan and Al enter a sand castle competition.
Dana's proposal of marriage from Brian has Karen already planning her sisters wedding and Carol freaking out and "grounding" Dana to keep her from getting married. But in the end it's Dana's need to find herself that makes up her own mind.
Meanwhile, the kids entry into the sand castle competition is successful and so is Cody and JT's quest for gold (only in very different ways).
JT acquires a wild-child girlfriend and needs advice from his younger step-brother, Mark, on how to treat the girl. Meanwhile, Frank takes Al to buy her first bra.
The Port Washington Cubs need a new player for the championship game and Al and Frank are at a loss as to who can join the team. Enter Carol's idea of placing the talentless Mark on the team. Which she soon convinces Frank to do.
Meanwhile, a 'no-sleeping' contest with Dana, Karen, JT and Cody has all of them going crazy without sleep, except Cody that is.
Karen's anger over JT's placing of her baby picture in the school newspaper takes a deadly turn when she hears about JT and Cody's trip to a psychic. Which is where JT learns someone resembling Karen will try and kill him at midnight...and it comes true.
Meanwhile,. Frank and Carol need a new bed and instead of buying a new one Frank buys a used one from the neighbors yard sale. Predictable chaos ensues.
Cody refuses to evict a family from their home and forces Frank to face the prospect of bankruptcy if he can't demolish the house as planned.
Meanwhile, J.T. becomes the manager of Al's envelope-stuffing enterprise.
Carol arranges a date for Karen for the spring dance. Problem is the guy doesn't score high enough on Karen's rating system to warrant a date.
Meanwhile, Frank becomes imprisoned in Cody's van after he installs an alarm that works all too well.
To become closer to a new boyfriend, Dana auditions for - and wins - the role of Juliet in a local production of "Romeo and Juliet." However her joy is tempered when Cody becomes her Romeo.
Meanwhile, Frank loses his wedding ring while playing golf and is terrified that Carol will turn it into a battle about trust and telling the truth. So he buys a new one at a pawn shop.
The family of one of Dana's good friends is off to Europe and offers the oldest Foster a chance to house sit. An offer that Carol first refuses to let Dana take them up on, but eventually gives in. Dana though soon finds out that living on her own is not all it's cracked up to be.
Meanwhile, Frank's payment for another job well done is any TV he wants. And he wants the biggest one on earth (with speakers to match) and much to Carol's dismay it goes into the pair's bedroom.
In an effort to impress the new Reverend, Frank promises the Lambert's will be in church the next weekend. Forgetting about the "biggest game of the year" involving the Packers that's gonna be on National TV. An event that JT is determined not to miss.
Meanwhile, Cody starts his own customizing business biker and brings over two of his new clients, Slasher and Death.
JT's sleeping in English class causes him to miss an assignment (A five page book report). Enter Mark who has done reports on many of the books on JT's list. Sparking a money making idea for JT and giving Dana a great oppurtunity to sabotage her step brother.
Meanwhile, Slasher and the wifey head out of town and leave their baby Harley with the Code man. Giving Carol the idea that she wants another baby.
JT and Dana think being a teenager is the tougher job and Frank and Carol think being an adult is. So, naturally, they decide to bet on who will quit first when the pairs switch places for the weekend. Both pairs end up learning a valuable lesson.
Meanwhile, Cody looks for the love of his life by placing an ad in a biker magazine.
Mark gets a bad grade on a test (an A instead of A+) and Frank thinks if he can get Mark to have some fun that the youngest Foster will relax and not be so compulsive. Frank's idea is a video game (think Sega) and it takes over Mark's life and forces his parents to take drastic measures to help him.
Meanwhile, Cody's case of the common cold drives him to take Dana's suggestion of visiting a health food store. Where he meets a crackpot who teaches him, "Mental Strength", a supposed cure for many of life's ailments.
JT (John Thomas) helps Cody set-up his own 'Custon Service Shop' for bikes. The ideal being that it could really raise some money because of Cody's reputation of being the best mechanic in town. But once he becomes the boss he no longer gets to do anything of the work he once loved.
Meanwhile, Carol and Frank's anniversary brings about yet another of Carol's goofy ideas, a limit on their spending. So, of course, both go way over board after snooping on each other numerous times.
Cody's beloved van, Lucille, is in the shop for repairs. So Frank offers Cody a place that's not outdoors, the living room couch, for a few days (a situation Carol fears). But as it turns out Lucille's life is over and it looks like Cody is now homeless.
Meanwhile, Karen meets Dana's new friend (Kevin) the director of the local soup kitchen and volunteers in hopes of getting him to ask her out.
Cody's blind date turns out to be a very attractive young lady (Bonnie) with an adorable ten year old son. Which Cody promptly becomes best buds with. Making Bonnie think Cody is the perfect choice to be the father her son desperately needs.
Meanwhile, Carol and Frank argue over a new decorative scheme for their living room and Al goes to great lengths to increase her bust size.
Karen meets a smart guy she wants to ask her out but fears she's not smart enough for him. But turning to Dana to get her to talk to him turns out to be a horrible idea when Dana steals the guy instead of talking him into going out with Karen.
Meanwhile, Frank resistance to dancing has Carol seriously upset with him and eventually forces him to turn to Cody for dance lessons.
It's late on Christmas Eve when Frank discovers, to his horror, that he's forgotten to buy Brendan's present. In dispair, he decided to sneak back into the toy store he's been doing work on. Aided by Carol, they get caught and end up spending the night in jail.
Karen's getting her license is dampened by the fact that Frank and Carol refuse to them another car for her, JT and Dana to share. So the kids pool their money ($411) and make the mistake of letting JT buy their the car.
Meanwhile, Carol buys a new relationship book and insists her and Frank work on their relationship. Which soon has Frank mad over the revelations.
Al is upset when her guy friends exclude her from Basketball and (tackle) Football. So Frank encourages her to make some girl friends but doesn't like the end result when Al brings home Jackie, a thuggish, camouflage wearing girl with a bad rep.
Meanwhile, the TV set flames out, literally, and Carol uses the opportunity to try and unite her still roughly blended families by getting them together for a game night.
When the story lady at the local library takes time off to give birth, Cody volunteers to manage the story hour until she returns. But a problem soon arises when Cody discovers that one of his 'pint-sized page turners' is also not a very good reader.
Meanwhile, Frank's year-end profit ends up being some $6000 below what Carol brought in. Sending Frank in search of a part-time job to fill in the gap. Ending up at Mr. Cluck Bucket giving out coupons in a chicken suit.
It's Mark's 13th birthday and he doesn't want the normal kiddie party that Carol suggests, he wants a more grown up boy-girl party. The party is a huge success and Mark even gets kissed by the girl that he likes. But things are not always as simple as they appear.
Meanwhile, the news of JT's passing of his final exam in shop class has Dana mouthing about how she can do anything that he can do. This leading directly to a bet with Dana trying to pass the same exam with Cody as the judge and Karen as her assistant.
Cody is convinced that his dream of Dana being attacked by a man in a dark suit will become reality. So when Dana leaves for a College interview in the Windy City, Cody follows her and accidently mistakes the dean as the would be attacker.
Meanwhile, Carol's sudden bout of snoring has the kids and Frank staying up all night. Problem is: Carol's convinced that she doesn't snore.
Karen's big modeling break could come if she can just get noticed by a big New York photographer. Problem is the guy isn't looking for just pretty (it's been done) but someone "with attitude" and to everyone's surprise he finds her. But it's not Karen...it's Al!
Meanwhile, Cody is convinced that he's a born winner and is reluctant to test his theory when Frank invites him to sit in on a poker game with some of his friends.
The anniversary of Frank and Carol's first encounter rolls around and Frank tries to prove he can be romantic by planning a weekend trip to a lodge. The same one he took an ex-girlfriend to a few months before meeting and marrying Carol.
Meanwhile, Mark laughs at JT, Al and Brendan's scary movie (Chainsaw Slumber Party 2), so they try and scare him...for real. But payback can be a real scary thing.
Urged by his parents to either apply to college or find a job, JT takes a part-time position as a car washer at a used car lot. He quickly rises to salesman and not does he enjoy his new job, he's surprisingly good at it. Something that a skeptical Carol has to see to believe.
Meanwhile, Dana's psych class has her analyzing a member of her own family, Cody. A task that is not as simple as Dana would have hoped. And could cost her a good grade.
Carol's mid-life crisis hits with bang when she realizes she's no longer a size 6. Spurring her to begin a diet and soon taking diet pills in an attempt to lose weight. It soon becomes apparent that Carol's diet is getting seriously out of control as her energy levels are now through the roof.
Meanwhile, a history report on Abe Lincoln leaves Al in need of information on the the former President. Insert Cody, who manages to get the dead president to come for a visit, though only he can see him.
Karen gives Cody a great idea for a story for his creative writing class. A 40's style mystery with Cody starring as Detective Sam Spud and Karen as Kitty Meow, the loser of the diary. Sam must then uncover who took the diary and why they took it, before returning it to the very alluring Kitty.
Cody's father (and Frank's brother), Richard, arrives with a surprise for his son, he's naming Cody the new Senior Vice President of Lambert Co. A job that Cody is hesistant to take and soon comes to hate. That thought is not easy for his father to accept.
Meanwhile, Carol once again wiggles her way with Dana and Karen and forces them to go out with the sons of one of her clients. But when the boys turned out to be morons, Carol must finally pay.
JT's search for a date for Senior Prom ends when his friend agrees to set-up with his sister, what JT thinks is a swimsuit model, turns out to be the buddy's 13 year old sister, Eleanor. On the other hand, Dana, seems to have struck gold with her pick, but it too is not as it appears.
Meanwhile, Brendan beats up a boy for cheating off him and Frank and Carol invite the boy's family over to sort out the mess. Only to find out that the parents are worse than their son.
Mark's lack of respect from his fellow students leads him to join a Karate class. The coach though doesn't think Mark has what it takes and throughs him out of the class. Forcing Mark to turn to the Foster-Lambert's resident Karate black belt, Cody, for lessons.
Meanwhile, Frank grows tired of the constant screaming in the house and installs an intercom system in the kitchen.
Dana first taste of college life, at East Wisconsin University, is a cold slap in the face when she receives her first bad grade. It takes her a while to realize that the bad grade is the just the tip of the iceberg as from now on her education is gonna be more difficult than she's used to.
Meanwhile, JT receives his first credit card and a warning from Frank. He pays no attention to one and goes nuts with the other and begins to rack up debt like the family has never seen before.
Cody's college career is off to a fine start, so much so that he decides to join a fraternity. Though Dana warns him that the guys are bunch of sexist pigs, Cody joins anyway and invites the girls to a wild party. Dana refuses but Karen is all for it and the two soon find out why Dana was so against going.
Meanwhile, Brendan is forced (by Carol) to join the school band and grows to like it. Problem is: he's awful at playing the trumphet and everyone else in the family complains endlessly, including Frank.
Channel 56 is looking for a part-time weekend sportscaster and Frank is excited to tryout. But the audition is on live TV and Frank is not exactly the smoothest on the air and Carol ends up having to fill in for him. A situation that soon has the two at each other throats.
Meanwhile, Carol's newest ban on junk food has the kids buying their own. Which results in everyone being suspicious of the others and over protective of the food they've had to spend there hard earned money on.
Karen's obsession with becoming Port Washington High's "Homecoming Queen" takes a turn in the nerdish direction when Mark reveals that the deciding vote for the crown would be a student named, Irwin Bird, "the Birdman". Irwin soon demands a date in return for his vote.
Meanwhile, Cody tries to put an antenna on his van (during a storm) and gets struck by lightning (for the 2nd time) and loses his memory.
Cody wants to be in the Guinness Book Of World Records and therefor wants to make the biggest hollowed out pumpkin.
Meanwhile, Carol and Frank decide to dress as Tarzan and Jane for the special Halloween-Ball.
JT's freak out about Al's first date sends her to her step-sisters in search of advice. Dana and Karen though have very different views on the way a girl should act on a date. Karen's "three key phrases" philosphy wins Al over but that's not the case when her date shows up.
Meanwhile, Dana forms a new study group and excludes Cody in her quest for an A. But when those plans back fire, Dana must reconsider her efforts.
The news of the Foster-Lambert's brew adding a new member is not well recieved by the ever bickering kids of the household. Which gives Carol the idea to put the whole family into therapy. But as it turns out, the kids aren't the ones that need therapy, Carol is.
Meanwhile, the other member of the family who needs therapy for real, Cody, thinks he's turning into a werewolf. Even having a very vivid dream where that actually happens.
Cody's 'best friend in the world', George Humphries, comes for a visit. But it's not as simple as it seems on the surface and Cody discovers that his old friend is harboring a dark secret. One that Cody accidently (with Brendan's help) uncovers and must then deal with the "fall" out.
Meanwhile, Frank and Carol's plans to build a new room, for the soon-to-arrive baby, has the kids kicking up a fuzz and proposing alternative's to the parents plans.
Al's new boyfriend, the kilt wearing, dreadlocked, Zack Bailey,
has Frank seeing red and he soon forbids Al from seeing the boy. Though it has much less to do with what the boy has done than what he dresses like. Frank though is soon taught a lesson in not judging a book by it's cover.
Meanwhile, a mysterious new sneezing fit has Dana running away from the source of her attack, Cody.
On the homefront, with the parents away, Mark plans a date with a cyber cutie he met on the information super highway. He's not exactly impressed though when he meets her in person. Also, the girls (Karen, Dana and Al) spend a night in and discuss their favorite fantasies.
Meanwhile, Frank tries to take Carol's mind off the baby and it's impending arrival by taking her away for the weekend on a romantic retreat. The early results are not positive.
It's Christmas time once again in the Lambert-Foster home and this year JT wants nothing to do with it and prefers to go skiing with his friends.
Meanwhile, the girls clash with their Aunt Edna.
JT meets a new girl at a local restaurant and tries (and succeeds) in impressing the girl by lying about the Porche he's driving and the fact that's he's really not rich. Even finding some money and buying her a special gift, but the reality of who the money might belong to prompts JT to finally come clean.
Meanwhile, Frank and Carol go for a check-up on the baby and come home with a video of their babies first ultrasound.
Dana is heading out for a date with her new boyfriend when it's revealed that her new man is, slightly, older than her. Which concerns Carol and makes Dana more determined than ever to make it work. Also Cody, makes a movie (Free Goldie) with the kids as the cast.
Meanwhile, Carol's pregnancy has her "bingeing" on any food she can get hands on (Pizza, turkey legs, Chinese) and it's up to Frank to try and break the habit in any he can.
Mark's sweetheart Gabrielle is over for a weekend visit, but it's not as harmonious as they'd hoped. Though it all begins innocently enough with Gabrielle requesting that Mark toss out a swimsuit magazine. Mark then takes advice from JT and stands up to his lady love.
Meanwhile, Frank leaves hints for Carol about what to get to him for his upcoming birthday. But Carol instead buys him something she knows he's gonna love (he doesn't).
Al gets her learner's permit and wants desperately to drive. Volunteering to drive anyone who's on their way out, but Frank is hesitant and forces Al to turn to JT. A decision that turns out badly for Al (and JT), not to mention Frank's truck and the house. Also, Dana has her wisdom teeth out and goes goofy when she takes her pain meds.
Meanwhile, Frank and Carol take a baby care class that both need. But Frank is not exactly the most handy person when it comes to anything to do with a baby.
Dana gets the chance to teach a remedial history class (at Kennedy High School) with a teaching partner, which turns out to be Cody. The class is soon signed up by Cody to appear on a local quiz show with opponents that maybe just be to smart for the kids.
Meanwhile, Carol's usual case of compulsion takes to new heights when the kids try to help around the house but can't satisfy her. Leading Brendan to believe he's hurting the baby by not doing enough.
JT's friend gets a big job due to his college education and this prompts JT to enroll in college. A move that's met by insults from Dana and a painful reality when he fails his first test. Though things are not as simple as they appear on the surface and soon JT's searching for answers.
Meanwhile, Carol tries to get her yet-to-be born baby into a top notch local pre-school. But during the interview she learns that the school administration doesn't view them as equals.
Cody's professor suggests that he'll never be a competent public speaker unless he tackles his habit of saying, "Dude". So, in an attempt to break his habit, Cody (with Dana's gleeful help) straps himself into a vest filled with batteries and charges Dana with the task of giving him a shock every time he uses the word.
Meanwhile, an eight months pregnant and very insecure Carol discovers Frank is building a fantasy bedroom in the house of his ex-girlfriend. So she (of course) comes to the awful conclusion that he's cheating on her.
JT gets a very surprising grade on a paper and it irks Dana and leads her to uncover the reason her step-brother got a better grade than her. That reason turns out to be the teachers interest in JT, which is not as a student in class but one in the bedroom. An offer JT seems to be likely to take her up on.
Meanwhile, Frank buys a new grill and attempts to put it together himself. And Cody has a problem that's causing him to sleepwalk.
Brendan's idolized love of a popular Baseball player turns south when the guy reveals himself to be money hungry and uncaring about his fans. Things though take a different direction when Cody confronts the star player on TV while being interviewed by a real Hall of Famer, Harmon Killebrew
Meanwhile, JT's loud mouth drags him and Frank into a battle of the sexes with Dana and Carol. The losers have to admit they're weaker and have to kiss the others feet.
Al gets the chance to go to Disneyland with a friend but needs 500 dollars for airfare. A total Frank is unwilling to give her. Enter JT's latest get-rich-quick scheme, babysitting. The two though soon learn that a house full of kids is way more than they can handle. Also, Karen shops for the right Prom dress.
Meanwhile, Frank makes Cody his foreman and his first task is to bring into line a new member of the crew that doesn't seem like he wants to do as he's told.
Al (who is not 15) wiggles her way into Dana and Karen's planned trip to the EWU campus and a frat party. Even stealing the man that Karen had her sights set on in Jeremy. Al finds herself in over her head when she accepts Jeremy's invite for a tour of the campus. It's Dana and Karen to the rescue.
Meanwhile, Carol plans a yard sale to rid of Frank's old junk and Cody attempts to write a song about Port Washington for a contest sponsored by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Carol goes into labor and sparks an all-out war between the factions of the apparently NOT so blended members of the Foster-Lambert household. The war soon erupts again in the maternity waiting room and forces Cody to be the voice of reason and try talking some sense into the brew.
Meanwhile, Carol battles pain, Frank and the doctor as she goes through the labors of having the first production of the Foster-Lambert's.
JT and new pal, Rich Halke, cook up a plan to take dates to see the movie French Kiss at the drive-in. but JT is thrown for a loop when Rich announces that his date is none other JT's not-so little sister, Al. News that does not sit well with the over protective, older brother.
Meanwhile, Mark's growing pains begin to manifest themselves in new ways as he and his friends sneak some cigars and smoke them. Also, Cody introduces Dana to "Brad Pit"
Dana insists that taking care of the newest arrival of the Foster-Lambert brew, Lilly, is gonna be easy and sends Frank and Carol on their date. Things soon turn sour when the girls accidentally lock a crying Lilly inside the master bedroom and are forced to call for help.
Meanwhile, Frank and Carol's date turns out to be an ill-fated disaster from moment one. Also, Cody thinks he's dead after he reads an obituary in the local paper of a guy with the same name.
Dana decides to move out of the house and into a frat house with some of her fellow EWU students. A move that doesn't turn out to good for Dana as she is soon caught by Karen and Al at a wild party and photographed in a compromising position.
Meanwhile, Frank thinks it's time for Lilly to move into the nursery and out of he and Carol's bedroom and Cody thinks their new neighbor was profiled on America's Most Wanted.
JT and Dana are assigned community service as apart of a class in East Wisconsin University. The family helpline (run by Howard) is where they land. But a crisis at home leads Howard to put the bickering step-siblings in charge despite the fact that they're totally unprepared for such an assignment.
Meanwhile, a horny Frank and a panicked Carol try to deal with Lilly's seemingly endless crying. A problem that can only be solved by Cody's intervention
Frank's interviews for hiring a new housekeeper don't go as smoothly as he'd hoped. He's soon dragged away for other errands and leaves the chore to JT. Who hires a lingerie model with no experience and is soon reduced to doing the housework himself.
Meanwhile, Karen tries out for cheerleader and has to not only deal with the pressures of the squad but also Carol's playing stage-mother (...again) when she takes over Karen's training.
Karen's desire to become the next great country music sensation has her joining a band in hopes of cutting a demo record. She later learns of a record producer who's in Port Washington searching for talent. But it ultimately leads Karen to a painful reality check.
Meanwhile, Frank and Carol demand the kids do more for themselves, which has unintended consequences. Also, Cody orders a ham radio from Russia and ends up with a mail order bride instead.
Al gets fired from another job because of her attitude and feels compelled to keep the next job she gets. The place she lands one is the newest shop at the mall and features a monkey as a mascot. A monkey that Al is forced by the boss to take home for the night when the trainer doesn't show up.
Meanwhile, JT's greed leads him to bet a pool shark that Mark can beat him. A $1000 bet that Cody doesn't approve of. Also, Carol tries to convince Frank to play Tarzan to her Jane at a fundraiser.
Cody gets his dream job as a "roadie" for a famous pop star, Christi Rose (special guest star Debbie Gibson). A gig that had Cody immediately being promoted to head of security and not long after getting an invite to make the job a bit more personal and long lasting.
Meanwhile, the kids talk Frank and Carol into buying them a car. But instead Frank buys his own dream car, a 1965 Mustang, and refuses to let the kids drive it.
Dana organizes a feminist study group and is hesitant to let Cody join until he's voted in by the other members. She soon realizes that most of the group are more interested in dating Cody than listening to her ideas on how to make the world a better place for women.
Meanwhile, Carol drags a reluctant Frank to a health spa and Mark ends up on the loser wall at the fall dance until he's picked up by one of the school's hottest chicks.
JT and Al babysit Lilly while Carol and Frank are gone and get the idea that the toddler could be the next 'Yum Yum' baby at a casting call in Milwaukee. But when that falls through, a disappointed JT picks up the wrong baby for the ride home and doesn't realize until it's to late.
Meanwhile, Carol drags Frank to a hair care convention and gets upset when he has a good time. Also, Cody and Dana get locked inside of Cody's new magic box.
JT discovers that there's more to life than money and Al discovers a new hottie named Matt.
Dana gets the chance to pose for a well-known artist, Jayne McNeal, who does abstract with mostly shapes and colors. She though wants Dana to pose nude for her, something Dana is reluctant to do. The painting ends up at auction and that's where Dana finds out it's NOT at all what she was hoping.
Meanwhile, Frank chases a stray mouse in the attic to disastrous results and JT gets a date with a mobsters daughter...which also leads to disaster.
Mark's principal wants him to attend a local school that has a more focused curriculum. Academics and nothing else that is. But what Mark finds out once he begins is that the level of compeition is much greater than at his old high school and it forces him to study harder to compete.
Meanwhile, Frank and JT have to dress up as cheerleaders at a sports bar for a chance at two Superbowl tickets. The last part though is the most painful, wrestling two ladies.
Frank's mother, Helen, arrives for a visit despite Carol's objections and insistance that the elder Lambert is a know-it-all that critizes everything. Carol is soon proved correct and with his mother making plans to move to Port Washington to be Lilly's nanny, Frank is forced to action.
Meanwhile, JT's search for a job and Dana's quest to get self-defense training collides head-on and it's not a pretty site for JT.
Al's hot new boyfriend, Matt, invites her to spend the weekend at a secluded cabin with him and some friends. Frank though feels differently and refuses. Al's decision to go anyway is forced when she learns of a new attendee who is rather easy according to rumor.
Meanwhile, Carol's newest horror novel has her growing obsessed which leads to nightmares and Cody has a narly case of the hiccups.
Cody tries to heal Dana's broken heart by sending her anonymous love letters after she's dumped by her boyfriend right before Valentine's Day.
Meanwhile, Frank buys Carol a faker Rolex.
Frank and Carol's trip to Lilly's trip to playgroup has them feeling their age, plus a few years. So in an attempt to appear younger they accept an invite from some fellow parents for a night on the town which features a stop at a 'crunching club'.
Meanwhile, JT's loud mouth get him into trouble again when he claims that 'buds are thicker than babes'. A claim that Dana puts to the test with a friend of hers hitting on each of the guys. Payback though is JT's to hand out.
Dana thinks she's found the one in her new boyfriend, Fleming Adler, a self-described "let it all hang out" psychology student. But as Karen notes, he's a pompous jerk. A fact that is quite obvious to Carol and Frank upon first meeting him but doesn't dawn on Dana until much later.
Meanwhile, Cody's cheese hat has made him clairvoyant and the kids want him to help them win the lottery. Also, Lilly becomes JT's newest way to get a date when he claims to be her father.
JT's latest report card has him looking at Frank forcing him out of college and into getting a job. Until that is, Rich comes up with a cheat sheet for a test. But JT declines and takes the test using just the knowledge he learned while actually studying.
Meanwhile, Cody is talked into buying a large amount of buttercup cookies and must find inventive ways to dispose of them (such as Cookie Tuna Casserole). Also, Al wants a tattoo.
Dana, Karen and Al go for a ski holiday and end up meeting three studs, one of whom is a real life Prince. The news soon makes it's way to the girls and the guys admit that one of them is indeed the Prince. Though it's Dana who fooled into acting like a Princess while the real Prince remains undercover.
Meanwhile, Rich sends the Lambert's a chain letter. One which has him having good luck and the family experiencing a run of bad luck.
Dana's indecision over her college major has her seeking outside help in making the making the decision. A career testing center is the result, an ideal that also involves JT and Rich. But when the results come back suspicious it inspires Dana to investigate.
Meanwhile, Carol hires a new member for Frank's crew without his consent. The young man turns out to be an error prone, hyper-active, fumbling mess though.
Frank's mother, Helen, returns with some news: She's taking the whole family to Disney World for the first week of summer vacation. The family has barely settled in before first Rich shows up and then Flash (he needed to return Frank's hammer). Later, JT lies (for the millionth) time to impress a girl and it soon causes trouble between he and Rich. Also, Flash begins his quest to bring a park record back to America. Part one of two.
The Disney World trip continues with JT and Rich still at odds over their misuse of the savings. A situation that doesn't become clear to JT until he has a talk with Flash. Also, Karen's drive to win the country music competition has her pushing her sisters to the breaking point.
Meanwhile, Flash's quest to bring the ride title back to America is almost derailed when he tries to make the day of a little boy with his heart set on seeing Indiana Jones. Part two of two.
JT and Rich think getting a job at a local restaurant that Dana and her friend are picketing for sexist hairing practices is gonna be heaven on earth. They soon find out that "Barky" and her friends were on to the right idea when the job turns out to be their worst nightmare.
Meanwhile, Frank turns the basement into a recreation room using old tavern accessories and Flash comes to stay with the family while his place is fumigated.
Dana signs up to be a college tutor but when she ends up with Rich her joy turns to frustration and before long, all out rage. Sparking a bitter war of words with Rich that ends with a heated moment that neither saw coming.
Meanwhile, Frank tries to give Jean-Luc the idea to give him and Carol some time alone but the heart broken Frenchman is not easy to shake.
JT and Rich's trip to Mexico draws protest from Frank but he eventually gives in and the boys are off. Though clueless about the stow away in the backseat, Dana. Even she can't save them when the two can't pay their food bill and end up in a Mexican jail not to long after arriving. Dana soon joins them.
Meanwhile, Carol agrees to teach Jean-Luc to drive but the plan goes wrong when it's revealed that Jean-Luc is color blind and petal happy.
JT dates an older woman (29 to his 19) and everyone wonders what she sees in him. It's soon revealed though that JT's friend has an ulterior motive. By chance the lady blabs to Jean-Luc during an appointment and it's up to him to deliver the news to JT.
Meanwhile, Mark and his friends secure a copy of an adult movie and set up in the garage for a little fun. Though it's not them that end up enjoying the movie.
Carol refuses to let Al and the others go to a rock concert until it's revealed that she attended and did drugs at the infamous 60's concert, Woodstock. The concert though features Al actually entertaining the idea of doing drugs, the same one Carol did.
Meanwhile, Jean-Luc finds himself in the middle of a bizarre domestic dispute of sorts when he has to fend off the advances of Carol's married friend.
Frank's camping trip with his best friend takes a turn when Carol drops the news that Virgil, Frank's best friend, is sick and she invited Jean-Luc to go in his place. The trip though is eventful as Jean-Luc and Frank claim to be doctors to avoid being the handyman but end up being needed as doctors.
Meanwhile, Rich and Dana's relationship is thrust into question when Dana goes out with a handsome friend from high school who has ideas of more than friendship.
The car mechanic Al call turns out to be the perfect girl, for JT, and he eventually is able to remember his name and ask her out. Though he later considers ending the relationship when he realizes that she just might be, the one. It takes a conversation with Jean-Luc to help JT make up his mind.
Meanwhile, Karen gets a gig as a back-up vocalist in a country music video. But soon finds out that the music business is not what she had anticipated.
JT moves into his own apartment (Carol's old beauty salon) and discovers the real world. Meanwhile, Jean-Luc pays a little too much attention to Lilly.
Frank's forced to make a tough decision when J.T. and Rich can't come up with the rent due.
Meanwhile, Jean-Luc starts lavishing gifts on Lilly to quash his pain over not being with his daughter for her birthday.
Rich gives a locket to Dana, but will it's previous owner cause trouble for the in-love twosome?
Meanwhile, Frank appears to be going through a mid-life crisis.
Frank's fantasy about a lazy, drunk Sheriff cleaning up an Old West features Carol as a dance hall girl and JT as his moronic son.
Jean-Luc keeps the family guessing as to which celebrity's hair he'll be soon cutting. Meanwhile, Rich and Dana try to take charge of Lilly's 6th birthday party.
Mark's one way trip to "tongue town" turns out to be way more than he can handle. The girl is the hottest girl in school, Alana Mills, and of course Mark has to do her homework and this leads to him being alone with her in JT bachelor's pad. A situation that does not end well for Mark.
Meanwhile, Karen also has a hot date but when she gets dumped she goes over the edge and tries to look better by getting collagen injections.
Dana, Rich, Sam and JT head for Chicago for a concert and this prompts Carol's return to her paranoid/delusional side of years gone by. Ordering the maintainence man to take the door off of Dana's hotel room door. Though it's Dana (and Sam) who must make the big decision about s-e-x.
Meanwhile: AL scores a date with the pizza-on-the-guy, Drew, who turns out to be plus size. His size though is the least of Al's concerns as he turns out to be a jerk.
Rich and Dana (along with JT and Sam) attend a wedding and each fantasize about their future if they got married. Dana imagines herself trapped in a trailer in the backyard of the Foster-Lambert crew and Rich imagines Dana as a high powered attorney with no need for him.
Meanwhile, Jean-Luc and Frank attempt to put together Lilly's new playset. But Frank's cold keeps getting in the way until Jean-Luc proposes a solution.
When JT and Rich take on the job as sports agents to an up-and-coming college hockey player, they find themselves becoming his personal servants and dating service—with Karen serving as the main course.
Meanwhile, the battle between the hairdressers and the contractors begins when Carol and Jean-Luc challenge an overly-macho Frank and his pal, Moose, to a game of bowling.
Karen's ploy to get a hot guy to ask her out back fires when he instead asks out Al. The date though turns sour when he expects Al to put out and later spreads a rumor that he did score with her. A rumor a jealous Karen clings to until the very end.
Meanwhile, Frank and Rich become addicted to the new MAXIMUM Sports channel and nelgect the woman in their lives. Fortunately, for them, Jean-Luc rides into rescue the pair before serious damage is done.
Sam's prowess at event after event has Rich pushing JT to be a man and pick an event that he can beat her at. JT though doesn't see the problem until a bully forces Sam to actually defend JT. Prompting JT to have a bizarre gender-bending dream.
Meanwhile, Lilly is nervous about a trip to the doctor and turns to Jean-Luc to give her the courage to go through with it. But as it turns out, Jean-Luc also must go through the same treatment.
Sam's financial situation goes south and she is forced to take on a new roommate, a male roommate. This throws JT for a loop and he of course comes to the conclusion that they'll soon be sleeping together. Causing even more friction between him and Sam.
Meanwhile, Carol loans Jean-Luc money and lets it get under her skin when she watches him waste it.
Lilly sees Dana and Rich making out and this forces Frank and Carol to tell the youngster about the bird and bees.
Meanwhile, JT and Rich discover the joys of gambling.
Dana makes Rich feel like he's not as smart as she is when she chooses another partner for a save the community campaign contest. So Rich choose a person who's not as smart as he but stumbles upon an idea that just might make Dana look at him in a whole new light.
Meanwhile, it's Carol's birthday and Frank gets her a less than romantic gift (an emergency road care kit) and after being embarrassed in front of the whole family he feels pressured to do better.
JT involves himself in Dana and Rich's relationship by insisting that Rich has no say so what so ever (true). Rich soon rebels and decides to go out with JT on a Saturday night instead of Dana. A chance meeting a at a party later that night gives the love birds a chance to make up.
Meanwhile, Carol's stage mother antics reach new levels of annoying when she goes against Mark's wishes and attends his Championship basketball anyway...and starts a melee.
The opening day for 'Let Your Hair down' is drawing close and everything is looking good. That is until the The First Lady (of the United States) announces she wants Jean-Luc to cut her hair. But he refuses and it's up to a VERY frustrated Carol to get to the bottom of the problem.
Meanwhile, Frank's constant interference in Al's date life has her fed up. Though he really goes over the line when he picks out her next date and sets it up without asking her.
When everyone has dates and can't find any place to be alone, JT and Al stumble upon a plan. Using the newly opened Salon (after hours). But when it's Al and Drew's night, the others demand time too and instead of privacy it turns into a huge party paid for by JT's mental retardation.
Meanwhile, Carol sets Jean-Luc up on a blind date and finds him unwilling to even meet the girl. Though he does eventually give in.
Carol arrives home from the hair convention with a surprise for Frank, though it's not what he's expecting. Carol has a new partner in world famous hair stylist, Jean-Luc, and the two are planning to open a new salon in Port Washington.
Meanwhile, JT has a hot date and wants to learn to dance.
Karen's headed to college and finally feels like an adult until she meets her fellow classmate, Carol. Only in Carol's "mind" would she think that taking everyone of her daughters classes wouldn't upset Karen, which it does. Setting up a confrontation between mother and daughter.
Meanwhile, Dana and Rich butt heads over his grades, or lack there of, as she pushes him to study harder. Also, JT goes shopping without ever leaving the house (and gets caught).
A Hollywood producer comes to Port Washington (Why? who knows) and holds auditions for the role of a waitress in his upcoming film. Karen, Dana and Al tryout, but its Al who blows everyone out of the water with her subtle performance. So good in fact that they add a second scene re-written especially for her. With all the set side hoopla now going to her head, Al, decides she's found what she wants to do with her life.
On the eve of a friends wedding, Rich begins to act strange as he and Dana prepare to attend. Rich's behavior has Karen convinced that he's cheating on Dana, an idea that draws her and Al into tailing their sisters boyfriend. But the discovery they make is not at all what they first conclude.
Meanwhile, a horny Frank and Carol desperately try to find a moment alone to do...the "toe to toe tango", but find it nearly impossible.
JT is desperate for a job and quickly talks his girlfriend into hiring him when he hears the garage needs help. Though she is at first reluctant, Sam agrees. And as can be expected it turns out that JT is not exactly coordinated around the garage and it soon causes tension between the two.
Meanwhile, an outstanding debt lands Frank a boat as payment. One that he soon becomes Carol-esque obsessed with.
Dana is upset when her poem recieves a lesser grade than Karen's in college and suspects the teacher is only giving Karen good grades to butter her up. A fact that she is soon proven right on when the teacher indeed hits on Karen. It is then up to the girls to expose the creep for what he is.
Meanwhile, Marks surprises everyone when he announces he has a new 'sugar mama'. A girl that's bent on trouble and leads Mark into her chosen lifestyle the more time they spend together.
An old friend could spell the end of the Lambert-Foster's income problems. The friend in question is Kevin McGowan, an old high school classmate of Carol's, quickly agrees to give Frank a job on his new construction project. McGowan soon turns this to his advantage when he hits on Carol.
Meanwhile, Karen wants to pledge a sorority at EWU but she's not exactly the one that the group wants most. She doesn't find out though till it's too late.
It's Halloween and the kids host their own party at an old anandoned house that features JT meeting a girl who's already dead. Meanwhile, Lilly gets frightened at her own party.
Rich's old friend, Cassie, arrives back in town with her family and picks back with Rich where they left off in Jr. high. This doesn't sit well with Dana who becomes increasingly jealous as Rich spends all of his time with Cassie. Forcing Dana to do the unthinkable in her quest to win back Rich's attention.
Meanwhile, Frank's scheming Cousin Bert Lambert arrives back in Port Washington and Frank is convinced that he's back in town to cause some kind of trouble.
Rich and JT began to fight like a married couple and forces Frank to intervene and push them to solve their problems. Solution? Getting therapy with Dana. Though it's poor Dana who feels like pulling her hair out by the roots once the first session begins.
Meanwhile, Karen has a new boyfriend who also doubles as her personal gopher. A situation that prompts Carol to once again meddle in her daughters relationship.
JT plays Santa at the mall and accidently reveals himself to Lilly and causes numerous problems when he has to explain to the youngster what he was doing.
JT's NEW career as an agent lands Al a job as a model in a suntan lotion spot. But his not reading of the contract leaves he and Al shocked when it's turned into an ad for a local sex line by the sleazy producer. Leading Frank to play the good Dad and...threaten to throw the producer out of a window.
Meanwhile, Dana and Carol (once again) play Nazi food guards and try forcing the family into eating better. Though this time it comes with a twist ending.
Carol and Dana butt heads over the 'no hanky panky' rule when she catches Dana and Rich in a compromising position several times. Dana soon determines that the only way to get her control freak mother off her back is to get married and that is exactly what she drags a, very reluctant, Rich to do.
Meanwhile, JT's break-up with Sam is forgotten and he's not back to his lying ways by insisting he's now a fitness finatic to get a hot aerobics instructor to go out with him.
Rich and Dana's schedules leave them with very little time to be with each other. So, in a compromise, the two decide to take a pottery class at the Community Center. A class that has one of them far exceeding the others achievements and it's not sitting well with the other.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to spice up their love life's, Carol and Frank dress up as characters and pretend to be strangers. An arrangement that catches the attention of JT and Karen.
Frank's arch enemy has him reluctant to attend their high school's 25th anniversary reunion. A blow hard named Roy Tucker, who's only joy seems to be in reliving his past wins over Frank. Though once the reunion begins a secret comes to light that may, for the first time, give Frank the advantage.
Meanwhile, JT and Rich throw a pay-per-view watching party to get the money to buy a new TV. Unaware they are also responsible for babysitting Lilly. Lilly later disappears when JT won't pay her attention.
Frank and Carol's "perfect" marriage is put on display when Frank is forced by Carol to miss his Bucks game and attend a couples meeting with people from the church. The meeting soon dissolves into a bitter dispute about everything that's wrong in the marriage.
Meanwhile, JT and Rich need 400 dollars to take Dana and Sam on a ski trip. So the two resort to trying out as male strippers and get caught.
Frank has tickets to a Bucks-Bulls game and invites JT along and the two end up having a great time. Until that is, JT, asks Frank to switch seats with him and ends up winning a truck during a half-time contest. Frank sees it as his truck sense he bought the tickets but JT sees it a different way and the two butt heads.
Meanwhile, Dana begins a new woman's safety seminar and invites a handsome police officer to teach them how to defend themselves. A move that has Dana and Karen in a battle for the officers attention.
Al's over confidence of getting the lead role in an upcoming play has her heart broken and angry when she doesn't get the role. Instead she's given the lowly role of a maid and understudy to the star of the play. She refuses to learn the lead role and places the entire play in jeopardy when it comes out that the star of the play can't go on.
After two long years traveling the world the Codeman returns and he's bearing gifts. A 50 thousand dollar check to Frank and Carol being the most prominent of the ones handed out. But the winfall soon sends the two into a bickering free fall that has Cody worried they might break-up.
In the Series Finale, Carol and Frank and family (no none of them have moved yet) have a major decision to make when an offer on the old homestead is made. Leaving everyone in the family excited to be moving on...except it's youngest member, Lilly.
Meanwhile, Carol battles Lilly when the little stinker begins acting up in school. Throwing paint and balls as she fights to get her own way.
