In various reports over the years it has been reported that Sasha Mitchell and his wife had been having domestic trouble at the time and as the fifth season progressed this became more and more noticable. The final nail came when the media got wind of a domestic dispute that reportedly involved Sasha hitting his wife (unconfirmed).
In the end, it was Patrick Duffy, the series star and Director who has been credited with letting Sasha go with just a few episodes to go in Season five. Sasha was not asked back for season 6 as a result of this.
