It's Leonard's first day as a fourth-grader -- and he couldn't feel lousier. He drags himself to school, where he plans to try to blend into the background. That fails, since his mom is the teacher.
Spot feels that he can be more than just a dog, and decides to go to school. While at school, Spot (now known as Scott Leadready II) is showing Leonard up in every activity, and is popular.
You are required to bring your pet to school as part of a show-and-tell presentation in Leonard and Scott's class. Leonard decides to bring Pretty Boy, and Scott brings Mr. Jolly, both of which leave, leaving Leonard and Scott empty handed.
Because of his outstanding grade on the standardized tests, Scott is sent to the 5th grade, where his homework pre-occupies his time, giving him no free time to play.
Because he "ran away" before, Spot is given a collar that won't come off, that prevents him from ever leaving their yard. If Spot tries to, the collar will trigger censors at the end of the yard, and send off a terrible stench.
Leslie comes over to Leonard's house to borrow a cup of milk, and Spot licks Leslie's face. He tastes her lip gloss (pink lemonade with just a hint o' mint) and tells Leonard. When Tyler, Taylor, and Trevor are wondering why Leslie's lips are shining, Leonard tells them that she was wearing pink lemonade lip gloss with just a hint o' mint. They believe that he knows this because he kissed her, and Leslie is furious. Leonard will be kicked out of school unless he can prove that he has used that lip gloss before and still has it. The problem is that every store is sold out of that flavor.
It's parent-teacher conference time, and Scott doesn't have a mother to go up to the school for his conference. He decides to dress up as a girl, and go as his own mother, but he and Ms. Helperman bond, and she invites "her" and Scott over for dinner. Now Spot has to play three people -- Spot, Scott, and Mrs. Leadready!
Leonard and Scott both go to their first sleep-over -- at Ian Wasolusky's house!
Leonard vows to never dress up for Halloween because of an incident where he was bullied by a kid who didn't like his costume.
Scott wants to join the Junior Boy Rangers, but he can't tell colors apart, he has problems.
Spot falls in love with a poodle at a circus.
Scott gets a negative slip put in his permanent record, so he sees no point in being a good student anymore.
Scott's hate for mailmen gets him in trouble when one comes to his class to talk about a mailman's importance.
Scott wants to get a new skatepark, but when he learns that they are going to build the new skatepark on the dog park, he's faced with a dilemma -- will he support the dogs or the kids?
Ms. Helperman is put in charge of writing a brand-new holiday play, but with no luck.
Leonard and Scott want to go to the mall to play in the new video arcade, but because Principal Strickler is attending a principal's convention, he has to leave town and entrust the care of his cat Tallulah in one of the teachers. He chooses Ms. Helperman, against her will. Tallulah destroys the whole house, and is a pain to everyone. Since Ms. Helperman must tend to every need of Tallulah, she cannot take Scott and Leonard to the mall.
Scott is elected safety monitor for the school playground during recess, and everyone is excited because the past safety monitors have done nothing to keep their classmate's safe. At first, Scott is good at his job and everyone enjoying him being safety monitor, but he becomes out of control and changes how everyone plays to make them more "safe."
Leonard unwittingly takes candy from a kindergartner whose dad is the owner of a candy store. She develops a crush on him and gives him candy whenever he wants, and even when he doesn't want. After Scott talks her out of bothering Leonard, she develops a crush on Scott!
Leonard and Scott have to do community service for a badge since they are Juinor Boy Rangers. Scott is shocked when he's signed up to help out cats, and Leonard is angry that he must volunteer to help the elderly. Since neither one of them are afraid to admit failure, they both quit, then lie about it.
Spot ridicules Leonard after he is forced to get a terrible haircut. Shortly after, he is sent to the groomers, where they make him look like a poodle. Even though Leonard will be embarrassed, Scott may be revealed as a dog if he goes to school like that.
In this Halloween special, Leonard and the rest of the fourth grade, are forced to trick-or-treat on the left side of the street, as there are sweet candies being given out on the right side. Only nutritious candies are given on the left side. Scott convinces Leonard to go to the other side and get candy, which they do, but become guilty about what they did.
Meanwhile, Ms. Helperman let's in a stray black cat, whom is believed to be a vampire.
Scott is put in charge of baby-stting the class's chickens that have yet to be hatched. Scott would have no problem doing this, but the Air Show, that will have pilots doing plane tricks, is happening on Saturday, and he's already accepted the offer of baby-sitting them. Scott decides to wait it out, but when he needs a new lightbulb to keep them warm, and the fastest route is through the Air Show, will he be tempted by the show and stay there, thus leaving the chickens to die?
Principal Strickler wants his school to be the top reading school in America, but he has no more rewards for them once they get to the top, so he volunteers to shave his hair, then paint it purple. Strickler believes that no one will read that much, but Scott says that if he has to, he'll do it all by himself. This scares Strickler, who makes Scott his office assistant, so he won't have time to read.
Leonard wants a brand new scooter, but his mom refuses to buy him one. She wants him to raise the money on his own using a lemonade stand. When Leonard sees that everyone on the street has the same idea, he decides that it's hopeless. Scott then creates "Fresh and Frozey Chocolachinos," a chocolate shake-like refreshment that makes a killer. They run out of ingredients except for ice, so Leonard decides to pack up and start fresh tomorrow. Scott refuses, since they don't want to send home customers unhappy, so he creates foaming ice, which is nothing but water, but it's still popular. When a customer realizes that it's just water, he informs the others, and everyone wants their money back.
It's time for Pretty Boy to fly south, so he escapes from the Helperman household. Scott and Leonard go to find him, while Mr. Jolly hunger strikes until he arrives home.
Ms. Helperman is sick, and she hires a substitute, but Scott hates to see someone replacing her because of his dog-senses.
Scott becomes jealous when Leonard turns the game of "fetch" that he plays with Spot into a sport called "Fetch It" and becomes popular at school.
Ms. Helperman is baking homemade cookies when she shrieks at the sight of a mouse. While attempting to call a mouse-catcher, Leonard bets that Mr. Jolly can catch the mouse before she gets off "hold" on phone, or she'll get his share of the cookies.
Against Leonard's wishes, Scott throws Leonard a suprise birthday party. It becomes a problem when Leonard catches Scott setting it up, and still has to pretend to be suprised.
It's square-dancing-time at Leonard and Scott's school, and Leonard is paired to work with Leslie. Leonard is excited, until he sees that Leslie makes him so nervous that his palms perspire.
While playing a basketball against some fifth-graders, Leonard and Scott almost win, losing by one point. Scott comments that it was Leonard's fault, who strikes back at Scott saying that he threw the pass way off. The students on the playground say that if the two don't fight, they'll both be labeled whimps. Scott and Leonard don't think that they should fight over something so silly as a basketball game, so they decide to fake a fight (like pro wrestling).
At Leonard and Scott's school, you only give Valentine's cards to people whom you like. Leonard is feeling sorry for himself, since no body (besides Scott) likes him. Scott decides to make 20 cards and give them all to Leonard, labeled anonymous. When students find out that they all have the same hand-writing, they assume Leonard wrote them all for himself.
Scott is working on a magnificent science fair project on photosynthesis, the same topic every other student is working on. Leonard is working on a project on how dogs hear differently than humans. Leonard's mom walks in on Scott (as Spot) working on his project, and she assumes that it's really Leonard's project, and makes him enter it into the science fair. The only problem is that Leonard doesn't know one thing about photosynthesis.
Scott is the school's only hope of winning the spelling bee, but he fears his opponent, who has no friends, so he only studies the dictionary, and has won countless spelling awards.
Leonard unwittingly donates Scott's chew toy to his garage sale, that Scott has had since he was a puppy. Ian buys it, and drives Scott crazy with it's squeaking.
At the annual Junior Boy Ranger convention, Scott is the group's only chance of winning, so he does everything himself, without letting the others have fun.
Scott desperately wants to join the little league baseball team, but you have to have lived in their city for a year, and Scott hasn't lived there more than six months. Instead, Scott coaches Leonard so he can fufill his dreams through Leonard.
Leonard is accused of breaking Leslie's map after he's caught holding both pieces to it. Scott tries to help him, but all of the evidence leads to Leonard.
It's Thanksgiving Day, and Leonard's grandma comes to the Helperman household. She brings Leonard a really old video game, and Leonard isn't happy at first, but then becomes seriously addicted to it.
While playing "Truth or Dare," Leonard is asked who is his favorite girl in the class. Leonard is caught in a dilemma, because if he says "Leslie," she may not like him, and if he lies and says "Younghee," then maybe Leslie might have liked him.
Leonard and Scott are bullied by Fred, the new girl at school.
At school, kids are "flipping" cards, where you throw cards into a circle, and whoever gets the closest to the circle gets the other player's cards. Scott is fantastic at it, while Leonard is terrible. Scott teaches Leonard how to play, and Leonard becomes better than Scott, and wins everyone's cards.
Scott is upset that he never gets "boy" toys since Ms. Helperman only gets him dog toys since he's only known as a dog to her. He decides to search for a missing dog, with the reward being $1000.
Leonard and Scott sneak into Leslie's house so they can eavesdrop and learn what makes girls like guys.
Scott sniffs out trouble using his canine super-sense of smell.
Spot playfully bites Leonard, and Ms. Helperman sees it. Even though Leonard tries to convince her that he was just playing, she doesn't care, and thinks that Spot is a dangerous dog.
Spot is sad that he doesn't know what breed of dog he is, so he goes to a dog show, and tries to point out what breed he is.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jolly isn't too happy to see his dad after all of the years he's been gone.
