Floyd Lawson, played by Howard McNear
Floyd Lawson is Mayberry's barber. Floyd is inconsistently wed - in some episodes he's married, in other's he's not. His wife's name is Melba and their son is named Norman. Floyd has a sister, a niece named Virginia Lee and a nephew, Deputy Warren Ferguson. His shaggy dog is named Sam. In one episode of Gomer Pyle, USMC, Floyd has a daughter.
Howard McNear had a stroke midway through the series run. After his recovery and return to the show, he was filmed sitting down, either in the barber chair or outside his shop on the sidewalk bench. McNear left the show in the seventh season. |
