King Richard goes on a crusade against the Turks and leaves Harry as Regent, which Edmund strongly resents. After a year has passed, word arrives that the King will return for the Feast of St. Leonard, and it's up to Edmund to prepare the frolics; but Edmund plans something a little more cunning.

Episode Notes

This is the first of six times that Baldrick dresses as a woman. The other five are "The Archbishop", "The Black Seal", "Bells", Blackadder's Christmas Carol and "Major Star". He, along with Prince Edmund and Percy, also planned to disguise themselves as washerwomen in "Witchsmeller Pursuivant".

Besides Baldrick and Percy, McAngus is the only other person to refer to Prince Edmund as "the Black Adder."

This episode is essentially a remake of the unaired original pilot.

Episode Quotes

Prince Edmund: Don't be absurd. Such activities are totally beyond my mother. My father only got anywhere with her because he told her it was a cure for diarrhea.

Edmund: Percy, there must be something, there must be! Look.
Percy: Well there's . . . (Searching through papers) Ah! There's the Jumping Jews of Jerusalem, my Lord.
Prince Edmund: And what do they do?
Percy: They jump, my lord. They come in, my Lord, and they jump . . . a lot.

Prince Edmund: I'm hardly a rich man...
Richard IV: You're hardly a man at all!
