Episode Notes |
| |
In some respects, the plot of this episode is based upon that of The Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven. | Brian Blessed (King Richard IV), Robert East (Prince Harry) and Elspet Gray (Queen Gertrude) leave the regular cast in this episode. | This is the only episode in which any Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson) dies on screen. | According to Prince Edmund (Rowan Atkinson), he and Sir Philip of Burgundy (Patrick Allen) were childhood rivals. However, in real life, Allen was twenty-seven years Atkinson's senior. In fact, he was ten years older than Brian Blessed (King Richard IV) and Peter Cook (King Richard III) who played Atkinson's father and great-uncle respectively. | Rik Mayall (Mad Gerald) would later play Lord Flashheart in the Blackadder II episode "Bells" and the Blackadder Goes Forth episode "Private Plane" and Robin Hood in Blackadder: Back & Forth. | Patrick Allen (Sir Philip of Burgundy) was also the uncredited narrator of The Black Adder. | This is the only Blackadder series finale in which Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry do not appear. | Rowan Atkinson (Prince Edmund) and Tony Robinson (Baldrick) only share two scenes in this episode. | This is the final episode written by Rowan Atkinson. | Patrick Allen (Sir Philip of Burgundy/Narrator) died on July 28, 2006 at the age of 79, making him the first Blackadder cast member to die. |

Episode Quotes |
| |
Prince Edmund: (weakly) Harry...what are my chances?
Harry: Oh, good, good.
Queen Gertrud: He will live?
Harry: Living? Oh, I thought you meant of going to heaven.
Prince Edmund: (weakly) Damn. | Richard IV: The Black Dagger!
Prince Edmund: (meekly) Black Adder! | End Song:
So now the way of sin is paved
The blade has got the Black Seal graved
The only sound across the glade
Is Edmund pushing up the daisies
Black Adder! Black Adder!
A shame about the plan
Black Adder! Black Adder!
Farewell you horrid man |
