Episode Notes

Along with "Beer" and "General Hospital", this is one of only three episodes of the series in which Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Tim McInnerny, Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie and Miranda Richardson all appear. However, they all also appear in Blackadder: Back & Forth together.

Tim McInnerny (Lord Percy Percy), Stephen Fry (Lord Melchett), Miranda Richardson (Queen Elizabeth) and Patsie Byrne (Nursie) leave the regular cast in this episode.

Rowan Atkinson (Blackadder) and Tony Robinson (Baldrick) only share two scenes in this episode, the first and last scenes.

Rowan Atkinson (Lord Edmund Blackadder) and Tony Robinson (Baldrick) would later reprise their roles in Blackadder's Christmas Carol.

Miranda Richardson (Queen Elizabeth) would later play Amy Hardwood/The Shadow in "Amy and Amiability" and Nurse Mary Fletcher-Brown in "General Hospital".

This is the only Blackadder series finale in which Miranda Richardson (Queen Elizabeth) appears.

Episode Quotes

Lord Melchett: Let's play a word game.
Blackadder: Okay, make a sentence out of the following words: "face," "sodding," "your," "shut."

Lord Melchett: Will I never see England more? Her roaring fields, her swooping swallows…
Blackadder: And her playful sheep.

Queen Elizabeth: Unfortunately, apart from my nose getting a little prettier, nothing much has changed around here. Your animal still isn't housetrained. Your friend's still unemployed. And Nursie's one stick short of a bundle.
Nursie (Prince Ludwig): Moo.

(While playing charades with the non-English speaking Spanish torturer to work out what his torture will be)
Blackadder: Let's recap. If I admitt that I am in love, no, head over heels in love with Satan and all his little wizards, you will cut off my testicles with a blunt instrument resembling some sort of gardening tool and roast them over an open fire. If I don't admit I am head over heels in love with Satan and all his little wizards, then you hold me upside down in a vat of warm marmalade...and cut off my testicles with a large object resembling some sort of gardening...Oh I see. Well, in that case, I love Satan.

Prince Ludwig: Choose your next witticism carefully, Herr Blackadder - it may be your last.

End Song:

Beware all ye who lust for fame
The path of life is most uncertain
Prince Ludwig thought he'd won the game
But now the kraut's gone for a burton

Blackadder! Blackadder!
He beat the hun by luck
Blackadder! Blackadder!
He's smarter than a duck

Lord Melchett! Lord Melchett!
Intelligent and deep
Lord Melchett! Lord Melchett!
A shame about the sheep.
