If I Love Lucy was still popular in its sixth season, why did they end it to do the comedy hours?

Desi Arnaz was making his production studio, Desilu, into a bigger deal around that time, wanting to go out and produce more shows. This made it difficult for him, and Lucy, as studio heads, to work every week in a sitcom. With Desi's new workload, he decided it was time to end I Love Lucy and start monthly shows instead. Thus, the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour was born.

Why did veteran writers Madelyn Martin and Bob Caroll, Jr. quit writing for the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour?

Basically, the two ran out of ideas for those characters. Feeling they could no longer write Lucy style shows, the two stepped down from the show's writing staff. However, they continued on in the show as script supervisors, to make sure the writers kept everything "Lucy-like".

Why did the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour end after 13 specials?

This series ended due to the divorce of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. Per contract, CBS would only produce more shows if the couple was married, plus due to the friction behind-the-scenes, it was pretty much a no go. Besides that, Vivian Vance and William Frawley were ready to move on to different projects.

Where can I get the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour on DVD?

While the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour has made it to home video, it has yet to be seen on DVD. Presently, TVShowsOnDVD.com is running a petition to get the show on DVD, so go and vote!
