The Oblongs

The Oblongs originated from and is loosely based on the book by Angus Oblong entitled Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children.
This series is about a low-income family who live amongst other lower-class citizens in an area where the air is polluted with toxic chemicals, named The Valley. Due to the toxic air, the Valley people suffer from physical and mental abnormalities. All of the upper-class citizens live in The Hills which is located above the Valley, where the air is fresh. Due to their fresh air and lack of toxic chemicals, the Hill people have no dysfunctions or disabilities. Even with the difference in incomes and appearances between the two towns, Valley residents and Hill residents attend schools together, and have jobs where they interact (though the Hill people are of higher ranks).

The family is the Oblongs, who are a different, yet loving family. Bob Oblong is the man of the household. He’s an optimistic, cheery man who has no arms or legs, so he uses his teeth to attain objects. Pickles is the woman of the household. She was once a Hill resident, but moved to the Valley when she married Bob. After living in the polluted lands of The Valley, all of her hair fell out, causing her to become a chain-smoking alcoholic. Biff and Chip are conjoined twins that are attached at the waist who often fight each other over silly misunderstandings. Beth is the youngest of the family, who hasn’t grown in a year, and has a pink tumor growing from the side of her head. Finally, there’s Milo, who the series seems to focus on. He’s the middle child, who has nearly every physical and mental illness, most notably Attention Deficit Disorder (A.D.D.).

Although the series is widely claimed to be an insult to the disabled and dysfunctional, this series is still a cult favorite.
