Jarod has escaped from the Centre. With him he has several discs with recordings of simulations from his past. He starts to interact with a society he has never known, experiencing new sensations every day. With his talent for pretending, he can become anyone he wants. He uses his abilities to become a pilot, a fireman, a doctor and several other occupations. By doing this he tries to help everyday persons who have suffered in one way or another. Taking over where the law enforcement has failed, with a little twist of his own.

In the centre Ms Parker leads the hunt for bringing Jarod back. Helping her is Sydney, Jarod's old tutor and supervisor, and Mr Brutes, a technician. With clues from the internet, newspapers or phone taps the close in. However, there are currents and intrigues at the centre that constantly disrupt the work. Mr Parker, Ms Parker's father, appears to know more then he lets on. Another old supervisor, Mr Raines, also seem to have his own agenda and interests in getting Jarod back. And as if that wasn't enough, someone on the inside appears to be sending Jarod information.

During all this, Jarod tries to find more information about his lost parents. But he also digs into the murder of Ms Parker's mother. Is there a connection? Is his family still alive? And what is Mr Raines really up to?
