Based on the short story "The Utterly Perfect Murder" by Ray Bradbury. The story was first published in Playboy (August 1971).
Changes from the short story:
* The short story is in the first-person, stripping the episode of much of its narrative power.
* Doug is a jingle-writer in the episode, and plays the piano as a boy, but his profession is never mentioned in the story.
* The scenes with the bullies tying Ralph to a tree in the ravine are new to the episode.
