BBC mini-series about the six wives of British monarch Henry VIII. Keith Michell starred as Henry who aged from a svelte and handsome young man to a gross and corpulent old man during the course of the series. Annette Crosbie, Dorothy Tutin, Anne Stallybrass, Elvi Hale, Angela Pleasence, and Rosalie Crutchley portrayed the six wives. The series originally aired on British television beginning in January of 1970. A year later, in the fall of 1971, it aired for the first time in the United States with Michell winning an Emmy for his performance. The series would be re-run again in 1972 as a segment of Masterpiece Theatre. |
