Detective Boyle [Series Two], played by Mark Addy
A typical lad’s lad: crisp eatin’, belchin’, drinkin’, chauvinistic pig. Boyle’s job is supposed to be solving crimes, but in the slow sleepy town that is Gasforth, there’s not much to do, so he seems to annoy the women whenever possible, as well as enjoy his life and privileges as a detective.
Apart from that, he is also different from Grim in many ways. To begin with, he’s much quieter and reserved – if not soft-spoken – than the boisterous Grim. Also, despite his backwards ideas, he seems fairly intelligent and lacks the silliness that typifies Grim. |
