At her most basic, Habib represents the modern woman: intelligent and strong willed, and at the same time sexy. Often she is not willing to live by the same code of conduct that Fowler believes is right, due to its perceived datedness. Sometimes she is correct, and other times she is wrong, still she challenges the authority and perceptions of her superiors, showing her strength of character.
The other side – the sexy one – is what she has to not overcome, but manipulate. She has to try to get through to people such as Doyle and Kray, who are typical ‘male pigs’, and at the same time flaunt what she’s got when need be to get what she wants. One person who is always on alert for her is, of course, PC Goody, who is just gaga over her. Although he is both ready and willing she is far from either, and finds him more amusing than enthralling. |
