When Mary Ellen is invited to a college dance with one of John Boy's friends, she buys a second-hand evening purse, not knowing there is a valuable ring still inside of it and the previous owner wants it back. When she decides to wear it to the dance, the ring falls off of her hand, but she doesn't realize it until she is back home. When she realizes the ring is gone, John Boy takes her back to the college so she can find it and return it to the woman who owns it. When she returns the ring, Mary Ellen feels bad for the trouble she caused for wearing it to the dance.
