When Curt receives news that he has been called up for active duty in the army, Yancy decides to do his part and join up as well, and decides to let Ben tend to his animals while he is away. After he marries his sweetheart, Yancy soon goes down to the recruiting office to join up, only to be turned down for having flat feet. Meanwhile, as Erin is spending time with her boyfriend G.W., she learns that he is reluctant to go back to the base and begins to fear he joined up to make her proud. However, things get hard for Erin when Mary Ellen arrives home from seeing Curt at the base with news G.W. died in a training accident, and that he left her his land; stating that is in good hands.
