When John Boy and Daisy go out after one of her theatre performances, he proposes marriage to her, which she accepts after some hesitation. As the happy couple gets ready to go to Walton’s Mountain to share their happy news and prepare for the wedding, John Boy gets a job offer to write for the Stars and Stripes newspaper in London. While he thinks about the job at home, Daisy begins to reveal her past to John Boy and the rest of the family. Wanting Daisy to work out her problems with her mother before they get married, he soon takes her to her mother’s house. While there, John Boy discovers that Daisy had a daughter and that her mother has been raising her. At this point, Daisy decides to stay with her mother to raise her daughter; giving John Boy the opportunity to take the writing job in London.
