Before making such classic films as The Wild Bunch, Ride the High Country and The Ballad of Cable Hogue, Sam Peckinpah was a TV writer and director. According to almost everyone who bothered to watch it, The Westerner wasa TV show that bordered on genius. Brian Keith played a a cowboy who wandered the West with his dog. He had a gambler sidekick nmed "Burgundy Smith", played by John Dehner. Naturally, it is unavailable on DVD, and probably only exists in a few archives. Read more
