Karen came to Genoa City to work on Nikki Newman's Senate campaign. Karen ended up staying in town and working for Newman. Karen and Neil began dating and married in 2008. Neil and Karen were planning on adopting Ana Hamilton after it came to light that Tyra wasn't her legal guardian. Neil and Tyra ended up sleeping together and just as the Judge was going to award custody of Ana to Neil and Karen, Neil stood up and said he tought Ana should be with the only mother she has ever known, Tyra. Karen was devasted and left her ring on the court room table. Karen returned a month later at Lily and Cane's rehersal dinner to have Neil sign the divorce papers.
