A great start to the Americanized version...8/10
"A Man About the House" was a great start to the hit Americanized show Three's Company. The episode title in itself spoofs the show that it spawned off of, the Britcom, Man About the House. M.A.T.H's first episode script, and this first episode script are almost word-for-word, however, I still prefer this episode to M.A.T.H's first episode.

Janet and Chrissy discover Jack Tripper in their bathtub after a wild going away party for their now-defunct roommate Eleanor. With Eleanor gone, they need a third share of the rent...it just so happens, Jack is funny, he can cook, and guess what, he's looking for a place to stay. Originally, Janet is weary about allowing him move in, but after reviewing the pluses and minuses, they decide he can stay. Only thing is, the conservative Mr. Roper doesn't want them to...so Janet conjures up a lie, she tells him that Jack is perfectly safe to live there...after all, he is "gay" isn't he?

Spectacular episode

FAVORITE SCENES
-Janet and Chrissy hungover in the morning.
-Mr. and Mrs. Roper argue about the noise.
-Chrissy discovers Jack.
-Mrs. Roper sees Jack in Eleanor's night wear.
-Jack cooks for Janet and Chrissy.
-Janet and Chrissy review the pluses and minuses for letting Jack move in.
-Mr. Roper comes in at the wrong time, right as Patricia Crawford is visiting to view the apartment, and makes a fool out of himself.
-Jack and Janet convice the Roper's to let Jack move in.

NOTE
While this episode follows M.A.T.H's first episode "Three's A Crowd" almost word-for-word, it is important to note that some things are different:
In M.A.T.H., Chrissy and Jo are immediately happy about letting Jack move in. In this version, Janet is weary to let him in at first.
In M.A.T.H., Gabrielle, the girl who visits the apartments while Roper makes a fool out of himself, recites almost a completely introductory speech. In this version, Patricia, the girl, does not slap Mr. Roper.
In M.A.T.H., they do not have the hilarous "pluses and minuses" scene, instead they immediately let him move in.
In M.A.T.H., Mr. Roper's objection to Robin is a lot more brief, while in this version it is long-winded and results in the funny-line (not in M.A.T.H.) "What does platonic mean?" "Like you and me, Stanley".
In M.A.T.H., the episode ends with Chrissy telling Robin "I also told them you were gay." In this version, Janet has a longer speech, adding a few extra details.

While these differences don't change the fact that this episode is a duplicate of "Three's A Crowd" it does show some interesting originality.
