| The second season of Three's Company would be the start of the Growing Season! With the characters able to develop and the writers copying Man About the House less and less, the show finally has it's own roots to follow. Of course, some of the stories are borrowed from M.A.T.H., everything is tweaked, Americanized and original.
This season, Jack gets himself into trouble with girls when he breaks the ground rules and causes problems with the girls, winds up alone with Chrissy in the apartment, proposes to his girlfriend who he thinks is pregnant and goes crazy over a seductive airline attendant. Jack also winds up cooking for Chrissy's boyfriend, showing his true concerns for Chrissy when a man propositions her, "helps" out Mr. Roper's self-esteem and troubles with his absent-minded uncle.
Janet shows some interesting character this season with her crushes and heartache. Janet thinks thing are all good when her high school sweetheart visits, but it turns out he's a leech. She has a feud with Chrissy when Chrissy steals her date and winds up in a mess when she becomes Jack's boss at the flower shop. Janet faces a self-esteem issue early in the season when her boss gives another woman a promotion because she had big breasts, resulting in Janet wanting a breast augmentation.
Chrissy's innocence gets her in trouble this year when a man mistakes her for a hooker, proving to her father that her relationship with Jack is platonic, obsessing over her filmmaker boyfriend and dating a rich, older man who happens to be married. Chrissy's naivety gets her in trouble, but also results in much laughter with her roommates, who find her innocence to be rewarding and different, but it also leads to Chrissy into wild misunderstandings.
The Roper's show some of their character as well. Mrs. Roper is bored of being a housewife and gets a job, but blows at it. Desperate to have fun, the Roper's have a Christmas party, which turns out to be a bust. Meanwhile, Mr. Roper is scared when he winds up in the same bed as the "gay" Jack and there is always a problem between them when Mr. Roper becomes a little casanova.
As a group, they managed to get into awkard situations. Jack, Janet and Chrissy think they've discovered marijuana, Jack and Chrissy get stuck babysitting while Janet goes on a date, Jack's blind navy pal comes to harass him and Jack and Chrissy fight over who gets to see Frank Sinatra in concert with Janet.
Larry, of course, as Jack's right-hand man manages to get Jack and Chrissy into a frenzy over the marijuana plant he suspects is around, and causes Jack much grief when he uses Jack's name on a date gone bad.
Many memorable episodes and quotes occur from this season, with many goofy plotlines and hilarous misunderstandings. Three's Company is definitely at it's best this year.
