1 :01x01 - The Southbound Bus (Sep/21/1994)
On her very first assignment as a caseworker, Monica is told to stick close to a young boy named David Morrow who tells her that his younger sister died in a car accident and his mother has since run away because she feels responsible for her child's death. Feeling led by her "instincts", Monica goes to try to find David's mother instead of sticking close to David, but when she thinks she's found her, it turns out to be the wrong woman. Monica eventually does find her, but she has an extremely difficult time getting her to go home. Now Monica must try to fix the assignment with God's help or she faces the possibility of being demoted back to search and rescue.

3 :01x03 - Tough Love (Oct/12/1994)
Monica helps a mother, Liz, whose a journalist, and her daughter, Sydney, whose relationship has been torn because of Liz's drinking problem. Monica discovers that Liz began drinking to try to fit in with her male counterparts. One day, while Sydney's daughter Beth, whose been forbidden by her mother to see Liz, is over playing at Liz's house, Liz accidentally sets the house on fire with a cigarette when she falls asleep, leaving Monica to save Beth, and Liz completely unaware of what has happened. Later, Monica reveals herself to Liz, and tells her that she is the one who saved Beth by carrying her out of the fire, and with Sydney's help, convinces her to get help and counseling at the New Hope Center.

Monica must overcome her fear of water when she is assigned to Angela Evans who is an avid boater. As it turns out, Angela is being blackmailed by her former pimp now that her husband is running for state senator, and her husband, Carter, knows nothing about her past as Angela has done her best to keep it a secret. But after being convinced to confront her blackmailer by Monica, and it fails to resolve the situation, Angela decides that it would be better to commit suicide by drowning herself in a lake than to tell Carter about her past. Monica must now try to show Angela what her death would do to the ones that love her the most, and convince her to come to her husband with the whole truth.

Cassie Peters is a pregnant teenager who plans to give her baby up for adoption when no one, including her mother and the baby's father, Craig, will take care of it. But after the birth, while Monica is there the whole time in the form of a nurse, Cassie changes her mind and decides to run away with her baby to have a life of her own. But what Cassie doesn't know is that her baby is deathly ill and if she doesn't get it to a doctor soon it may die. Monica tries her hardest, and eventually convinces Cassie to take her baby to the doctor, but is it too late?

Monica, Tess, and Adam are sent to a small town to help a church put on their Christmas pageant. While there, Monica befriends Joey, a mentally handicapped teenager, who has become very afraid of the dark since his parents died in a car wreck when they went out at night. Wayne, Joey's older brother, is tired of having Joey around always breaking things and messing things up, so he has almost given up on him. But when Joey's best friend, a little girl named Selena, dies, Monica has to convince Wayne to accept Joey for who he is so they will always have each other.
