Elizabeth, pictured here with her brother
Emmet, can be seen as the angel to balance the ghastliness that is
Hyacinth. Despite
Emmet's continued insistence, Elizabeth is often bullied into doing whatever
Hyacinth wants, whether it be simply taking tea at 11:24; driving her at a moments notice into town; or rehearsing for one of her distinguished guests' visits.
Despite this strong-arming, Elizabeth rarely has a malicious word to say about her. What's more, she is often trying to encourage others to look on the bright side of a situation and to not see
Hyacinth as some sort of monster. The biggest problem in the relationship between the two ladies is coffee. Since Liz is a next-door neighbour, she is called upon on a near daily basis to 'enjoy' a cup of 'aromatic nut-roasted special'. The tension arises due to Liz's inability to calm her nerves in
Hyacinth's presence, often breaking china from the 'dropsies', or ruining the carpet and table with spillages.
Since her husband works abroad in the Mid East, she spends her free time enjoying a putter in the garden; doing some crocheting; or volunteering for a variety of church functions.
