Hyacinth is torn over choosing between visiting Daddy first, or a jaunt to Carldon Hall, a stately home. In the end she chooses Daddy first, much to the chagrin of Onslow, Daisy, and Rose. While chatting with Onlsow, Richard mentions going to the hall; and while at the hall, Onslow and the gang arrive to rescue Richard from a boring afternoon . . . if they can find him that is.

Hyacinth decides to take initiative to bring him into the family by having a small intimate affair of pre-luncheon cocktails; and she invites her friends to meet the 'Greek shipping millionaire'.

Hyacinth, on the other hand, is scheming for him to have a new position (something executive with dead chickens), and has invited an executive's wife over for afternoon tea.

When Delia Wheelwright, a neighbour, tells Hyacinth she will be going on vacation for a month to the Caribbean, Hyacinth seethes with jealousy. So she comes up with a plan to out-do Delia's holiday plans.

Also, Hyacinth and Liz are scheduled to go church cleaning; Onslow wants to help save Richard from Hyacinth; and Rose wants to become a missionary.

Hyacinth is in a state of jealousy when she finds out that Sonia Barker-Finch, a neighbour, recently had a barbecue with 'the Douglas Chater' – a local businessman – as a guest. Her mood, however, changes at the sudden realization that her husband knows another local businessman!

Also, when Onslow starts stopping out until late at night, Daisy suspects he's having an affair.

Hyacinth has to help the Ladies' Luncheon Club prepare for their guest speaker: The Commodore. When she arrives at the club – and everyone else hides – she takes it upon herself to pick him up from the train station personally, as well as prepares to bring him home for a quick drink.

Onslow, meanwhile, is helping Rose sell costume jewelery door-to-door.

Daisy is excited when Rose and Daddy are out for the day, and feels it's time to rekindle the romance within her marriage.

On the other side of the family, Daddy wants to go out for the day: to Africa!
