The Key - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
This episode starts off in Meridian. Guards are reporting to Phobos, telling him about the rebel leader's (Caleb) escape. One of the guards also shows the evil prince his discovery: the shackles that were holding Caleb. He also reports that the manicle key is missing, and that Vathek was the last one to have it. The guard believes Vathek slipped it to Caleb, but Vathek protest, saying that he lost the key in the battle from the last episode. Phobos orders everyone to search for the key, saying that if it wasn't found, they would know the truth.

Back in Heatherfield, Hay Lin is trying to make Caleb look "normal" so he could fit in on Earth. Caleb's busy complaining because he doesn't like Hay Lin's style, but Hay Lin simply tells him he has to fit in. To which Caleb replies that he isn't supposed to be blend in on Earth, he's supposed to be fighting Phobos in Meridian.

In the Meridian Market, Blunk is trying to trade off a bra (God knows where he got it; I don't want to), when he hears information about what's happening to Vathek. He scurries off to Earth to let Caleb in on the going-ons in Meridian. Caleb tries to figure out what could have happened to the key ("I left it in the hiding place just as we agreed so he could recover it after I left"), and Blunk tries to get away. Caleb catches the Passling trying to sneak off, and grabs him, shaking him upside down to figure out what he was hiding, and finds the key. Caleb is determined to get the key back to Vathek: "Vathek saved my life. If I don't get this back to him, he's a goner"

The girls have finished up Magic Practice for the day, and are heading back to see Caleb's new outfit that Hay Lin had designed when Yan Lin tells the girls that Caleb had gnoe to Meridian. The girls move quick, track down Blunk and force him to find them a portal to Meridian. By this time, Caleb is in the village in Meridian, and has found his friend Aldarn, who fills him in on everything that has happened. The girls, meanwhile, are trying to find disguises to cover up their guardian outfits, and the guy selling cloaks settles for giving them cloaks after Taranee dries his wood for him. Soon after the guardians bump into Caleb and Aldarn (literally) and after a few mixed-up communication in which Aldarn tries to act "cool" around Cornelia (total fiasco), they are spotted by one of Phobos's guards.

Moving fast the girls render the guard poweless, and Caleb steals the guards uniform so he can sneak into the castle to help Vathek. The guardians hitch ride on a wagon, and Caleb gets them all into the castle. Unfortunately the group, not noticing what they are doing, stumble into the mess hall. And it's dinnertime for the guards. After a quick fight in which Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin are given the chance to show off everything they have learned, the gang once again sets off to help Vathek. They find Vathek about to be dropped into the Abyss of Shadows, his punishment for loosing the key. The guardians ambush the guards in order to help Vathek, but Vathek says it's too late. Will, thinking fast, hids the key in one of the guards pockets and tells Vathek to lay down and pretend to be unconcious, after sounding an alarm to attract others. The Guardians grab Caleb and fly out of the Abyss. Cedric and some of other guards run in to see the scene, and when the leader of the guards tries to say they were ambushed by the guardians who had come to help the traitor (Vathek), the key slips out of his pocket. Believing he is the tratior, Cedric takes the guard and throws him Abyss, then orders Vathek back to his post. Vathek's cover is once more safe.

The episode closes with Hay Lin trying to design clothes for Blunk, claiming he is more of a spring then a winter, and Yan Lin setting up an old record player and asking Caleb if he wants to "get down and boogy". Caleb's answer? "I thought all earthlings were weird. But I' beginning to think it's just the females".
