John McIntire joins the series in this episode replacing Ward Bond. He would remain with the series for the remainder of its run.
Wesley Lau would later join the cast of the classic CBS legal drama Perry Mason as Lt. Anderson.
The only scene in which the two leads (Robert Horton, John McIntire) appear together is the final one when Flint, who had earlier been sent up ahead to scout, returns to greet the wagon train and notices that Hale is the new wagonmaster.
Wooster: Will somebody tell me who the new wagonmaster is?
Flint: Jud Benedict, Charlie.
Wooster: Jud Benedict! I wish I hadn't a asked.
Hale: Just call me Chris.
Wooster: Ain't you got no last name?
Hale: Is a last name important?
Benedict: (to Flint) You have a fine reputation as a scout. I hope you can live up to it.
Hale: (to Hawks and Wooster) I would appreciate it if you'd forget I ever was a wagonmaster. I'm trying to.
Hennessey:(to Lenny) What kind of a wagonmaster is that Benedict anyway that he's gotta bring gunslicks with him?
Benedict: Why don't you ask him?
Hennessey: What's that fool Benedict tryin' to do--kill off our horses?
Benedict: (to Hawks) If people don't have the stuff for a trip like this they shouldn't have left in the first place.
Benedict: Mr. Hale, anything to say?
Hale: I told you I'm just a paying passenger but that doesn't mean I have to listen to your speeches.
Hale: I'm gonna throw you off this wagon train, Benedict.
Benedict: You better get an early start.
