John McIntire does not appear in this episode and no reason is given in the dialogue for his absence. The guest stars pretty much carry the load storyline wise.

Episode Quotes
Orly: I'm sick of you trailin' me. Now turn around.
Hartman: Why?
Orly: 'Cause I don't like the looks of your back.

Orly: What's the matter with you? Can't you make up your mind whether you're a marshal, a preacher, or a gunslinger?
Hartman: I'm a little of all three, Orly, and I gotta warn you that's a combination that's gonna be hard to beat.

Wooster: I'll still bet a month's pay on that hard-headed bandit.
Hawks: It takes a hard head to know a hard head.

Judy: The world is full of good things, Orly, and if we just think about them we won't have time for trouble.

Hartman: You put up quite a battle, Orly, but you forgot one thing--you're outnumbered.

Analysis
A way too predictable plot twist and a lack of screen time for the regulars lower things somewhat but you do have good performances from guest stars Peter Fonda and Sharon Farrell.
