Shadowcat: Wow, take it easy Tank! I said, "let me check it out first."
Colossus: What did you find?
Shadowcat: Nothing. Just more tunnels.

Magneto: How's your ancient Egyptian?
Beast: Rusty, but I do recognize some of these markings.

Professor: Mutants. He's going to turn humans into mutants. All humans.

Wolverine: Three of them, and since I'm not getting a third scent, it must be Mystique.
Gambit: How about you guys stop sniffing, and just follow the footprints.

Wolverine: Xavier's mental block just saved our lives.
Sabertooth: Especially yours. Mesmero was telling me to push you off the mountain... the problem is... I'm still tempted.
Gambit: Why don't you both just jump off the mountain?

Mesmero: I now deliver you the third and final key, the shape-shifting mutant, Mystique.

Mesmero: Destiny has dealt it's hand, do not interfere.

Magneto: We... failed.
Professor X: Yes. Our greatest battle has just begun.

Analysis

The reason why Mesmero needed Rouge seems pretty simple to understand. He needed Rouge to gain the power of the three most powerful Mutant Groups - The X-men, Acolytes, and the Brotherhood. Then they would send Rouge into see Apocalypse, and then he would steal all of the powers that she has managed to obtain.
