Based on the works of author/cartoonist James Thurber, John Monroe is a cartoonist who is unsatisfied with his work, concerned about his life's path and afraid of women. So, in his drawings he is king of the castle, but in real life he is dominated by his wife and terrified by his daughter. His belief is that women are only on this Earth to make his life difficult. The series aired on NBC to decent ratings and critical acclaim but for some reason the network canceled it after only one season. William Windom starred in the lead role as John Monroe. Joan Hotchkiss, Lisa Gerritsen, and Harold J. Stone co-starred. Windom won an Emmy for his performance. Several episodes of the series were shown again on CBS during the summer of 1972. | Theme Song |
