Re-enactments of real criminal trials began in a courtroom but then moved to another set to portray a flashback to the action being described. At the end, the case goes to the jury and then the audience gets to see what really happened. The prosecutor and defense attorney were both played by regulars, Jim Bender and Truman Smith. The series originated on radio, running from 1936-49. The show opened in a courtroom with someone testifying, and faded out to a flashback of the events covered in the testimony. But of course the flashback involved the same actor or actress seen in the initial courtroom scene, and the problem was that the different sets were in quite far apart in a large studio. The actors quickly became breathless running from set to set. Donald Woods was the narrator
