Nick Adonidas is a log salvager traveling the coastline of British Columbia searching for logs that have been lost from barges and getting a reward from the logging companies for those he finds. His partner is Jesse, a member of a local native tribe. Their main rival is Relic, a log salvager of questionable character. They live in Gibbons and frequent Molly's Reach, a cafe run by Molly Carmody.

The Beachcombers was the longest running drama series in Canada lasting 19 years. Two "reunion" movies were made with surviving cast members, but the popular series is yet to be revived.
