Episode Summary

A group of British, French, and Spanish deserters have taken over the town of Adrados in Spain. They also have taken hostage Sarah Debreton, wife of French officer Colonel Duberton, and Isabella Farthingdale, wife of British officer Sir Augustus Farthingdale. Captain Sharpe is sent in to pay the ransom for Isabella’s release. As he arrives into Adrados he runs into Colonel Duberton on the same mission. Sharpe also discovers his nemesis, Hakeswill, is the leader of the renegades. After Sharpe pays the ransom Hakeswill raises the price of Isabella’s and Sarah’s release. It is also soon discovered the French have a stake in acquiring the town to plan an invasion into Portugal. Sharpe is promoted to Major to attempt a rescue and given command of the 60th Rifles to help in the mission of saving the woman and preventing the invasion.
