The Brent Park Cricket Club is the center of Roger Dervish's life. He is team captain, but behaves as if he's a general on the battle field. His overbearing nature has carried onver into his marriage to Miriam (Mim) who does his bidding to keep peace while muttering under her breath. She obediently prepares tea for the cricket team which not only involves making tea, but sandwiches and other edibles which she sets up for the team's enjoyment on her own.
Roger and Mim are the opposite of team member Kevin Costello, a beer swilling slob, and his vivacious wife, Maggie. The couple bickers, but they appreciate their strenghts and weaknesses, making their relationship more cooperative and congenial.
Mim and Maggie become unlikely friends, helping Mim cope with her boorish husband in ways she never expected.
The majority of the cricket team is more interested in drinking and chasing women than in their captain's detailed game plans. |
