The 2004 Summer Olympics were held in Athens, Greece from August 13 to August 29. They saw over 11,000 athletes from 202 countries compete in 301 different medal events.

One of many important milestones were reached during the Games Of The XXVIII Olympiad. The Olympics had now returned to it's home, Greece, the birth place of both ancient and modern Olympic competition. And this Olympics marked the first time in history that a record 201 National Olympic Committees participated in the event. With an event total of 301, an estimated 3.9 billion television viewers tuned in worldwide.
