Return To Lonesome Dove was a mini-series broadcast over 3 nights on CBS in 1993 with a huge Star-Studded Cast. It was a sequel to the 1989 mini-series
Lonesome Dove also broadcast on CBS. This second mini-series in what would become a
Lonesome Dove franchise so to speak aired for 2 hours each night. The story revolves around Captain Woodrow F. Call played by Jon Voight who had just buried his best friend Augustus 'Gus' McCrae who was played by Robert Duvall in the 1st mini-series. Call is in the process of leaving the town of Lonesome Dove to return to his ranch in Montana when he spots a herd of Mustangs. He decides he will drive the herd north and Isom Pickett played by Louis Gossett Jr. and Gideon Walker played by William L. Petersen decide to join up to help him. They also hire on Agostina Vega played by Nia Peeples and a bunch of Mexicans to help them move the herd. The series was so popular that it brought about more sequels like
Lonesome Dove: The Series in 1994 and
Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years a made for TV Movie in 1995. It is also said that the TV mini-series
Streets of Laredo in 1995 and
Dead Man’s Walk a TV mini-series broadcast in 1996 were also spawned from the
Lonesome Dove series as well.
