When Toronto police find the body of a young woman in a back lane, Murdoch’s superior, Inspector Brackenreid is quick to dismiss the incident as an accidental death. However, Murdoch soon discovers her death was far more sinister. The victim was the housemaid of a wealthy and very prominent Toronto family. The stakes are raised when Murdoch determines she was pregnant and had opium in her system. With the help of coroner Dr. Julia Ogden, Murdoch is able to piece together all the evidence needed to reveal the killer’s identity.

2 :01x02 - Poor Tom is Cold (Sep/12/2004)
Detective Murdoch investigates the apparent suicide of his young friend and protégé, Constable Oliver Wicken. The evidence, according to the coroner, is irrefutable. He was shot in the temple with his own revolver and a farewell note found by his side. But Murdoch is not convinced. At the inquest, a young woman testifies she was secretly engaged to Wicken but broke off the engagement that night. Could this unexpected news provide a motive? Murdoch continues to investigate the leads and discovers a possible witness who is locked away in a lunatic asylum with secrets that could solve the mystery.

3 :01x03 - Under the Dragon's Tale (2005)
Detective William Murdoch investigates the murder of a back-street abortionist, Dolly Shaw. The list of suspects is long since Dolly kept a log of her clients, all of whom have their own personal reasons to fear the divulgence of their indiscretions. Dolly’s murder is no surprise, but when a young boy, a ward of Dolly’s, is found dead a week later, Murdoch starts to wonder if he’s hunting for one murderer or two. Detective Murdoch’s search takes him into the music halls and chic Rosedale mansions of Victorian Toronto, but when he’s lured by the temptress Ettie Weston, Murdoch has to decide if the beautiful woman is a saint or a sinner.
