The movie that Carol had to buy because Brendan lost it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze.
This episode is the first one that features Cody calling Karen by his nickname for her, "Care-bear"
Dana: Cody you sleep in your van right?
Dana: Ever check for an exhaust leak?
Cody: You know you're like the third person that's ask me that this week.
(Brendan talking to Cody about running away)
Brendan: ...you gotta swear not to say a word about what I'm doing.
Cody: Alright, OK. Not a word.
Brendan: Cross your heart?
Cody: Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye, take a scaple and cut out my spleen if I don't say what I really mean.
(Cody needs to NOT talk to Frank and Carol about Brendan)
Frank: Carol, let's go in the living room and not talk to Cody.
(Frank talking to the kids about the rules)
Frank: Carol, may I say something?
Carol: Sure Frank.
Frank: Here's your consensus. Alright, from now on two videos per weekend period. Now pass the rolls and shut up.
The beginning of the episode featuring Carol claiming the kids had rented 8 videos over the weekend and it cost 84 dollars because she had to buy one (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Secret of the Ooze) because Brendan had lost it under his bed. But she later slipped up and said it was 10 videos instead of the original 8.
Even though this episode features yet another of the numerous 'Carol goes over board' outings it's not nearly as over done as the usual suspects. In this one Carol over reacts to the kids being pig headed about what they would be willing to give up. So she bans everything. Typical.
Even though I thought it was a fun outing I still have to wonder why Carol's first reaction is to ALWAYS over do it. We tried this in episode 01x03 (Rules of the House) and it didn't work any better back then. I'm becoming more and more convinced that Carol is not very bright. Either that or she doesn't learn her lessons very well.
Or maybe it was something more simple...the writers recycled an idea from Season One with a mild twist. Yep that's it.
