Pepe the Clown is hired to play the birthday party for the son of a hated dictator who is living in exile in Miami Beach. The dictator is murdered during the party, and all evidence points to Pepe. Pepe, however, insists he was not at the party, and hires Dave to prove that someone else went to the party in the Pepe the Clown costume to commit the crime.

Cha Cha is giving dancing lessons to an elderly gentleman in the Boom Boom Room. A young man watches her with interest, and after she finishes follows her to her dressing room to ask for lessons. "Carlos may teach you
a thing," he boasts. When she refuses and orders him to leave, he begins to dance with her. Dave Thorne happens by Cha Cha's dressing room and stops the man. Dave: I've known Pepe for a long time. He couldn't hurt a fly.
Lt. Snedigar: Maybe he has a different feeling about a fly than he does about a snake.
When discussing the case with Snedigar, Dave says he's "known Pepe a long time;" however, it was Cha Cha, not Dave, who suggested Pepe as the performer at the party. If Dave had known Pepe for "a long time," he would not have needed to enlist Cha Cha's help to find entertainment for the party.
