Tales of the Gold Monkey featured the adventures of pilot/soldier of fortune/adventurerer Jake Cutter and was set in and around the South Pacific island of Boragora in 1938.
Other regular cast members included Jake's one-eyed dog Jack, his alcoholic mechanic Corky, Bon Chance Louie, the local magistrate and owner of the Monkey Bar watering hole, Sarah Stickney White, a singer at the Monkey Bar who was in reality an American spy, and Dutch minister Rev Willie Tenboom who was actually a German spy. Recurring players included Princess Koji, ruler of the nearby island of Matuka, and her chief henchman Todo.
To the casual observer the show seems to be a knock-off of the Indiana Jones movies, but was actually derived from the same source material that Lucas and Spielberg based their Indy films on.
Athough it was entertaining most of the time it failed to ignite in the ratings and was canceled after only one season on the air.
