Teacher's Pet follows the adventures of Leonard Helperman and his dog, Spot Helperman. On Leonard's first day as a fourth-grader, Spot can't resist the urge to dress up like a kid and go to school, since he, and every other animal in this world, can talk and walk on their hind legs. Leonard is relunctant about letting him stay at school (mostly because he's showing Leonard up), but he allows him to do so when he realizes that it's his dream.
Spot decides to go by Scott Leadready, II because when he told Ms. Helperman (Leonard's mom and teacher) his name, she mistook him and thought it was Scott. Then, he saw a pencil that said "Leadready No. 2". Scott decides to use this for his last name, and Ms. Helperman believes that he means "Leadready II", so that becomes his name.
Teacher's Pet ran for two seasons with a total of 47 episodes. It premiered on Disney's One Saturday Morning (now known as ABC Kids), but was transferred to Toon Disney to air daily at 9:00. Disney's One Saturday Morning still premiered the new episodes before Toon Disney on Saturday, and Toon Disney would show them the following Thursday.
A few years after the series ended, the creator sent a suggestion of a feature-length movie for theaters, and it was accepted. The movie, Teacher's Pet, was about how Scott wishes he were human, and his wish is granted by a mad scientist. But because of his age in dog years converted to human years, he is around 50 years old and can no longer live with Leonard, nor can he go back to elementary school. The movie was extremely unsuccessful, and was pulled from theaters only a few weeks after it premiered.
This series still airs at random timeslots on Toon Disney, never earning a permanent spot with the new series' coming to the channel.
Spot is sad that he doesn't know what breed of dog he is, so he goes to a dog show, and tries to point out what breed he is.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jolly isn't too happy to see his dad after all of the years he's been gone.
