Following standard operating procedure for film releases, this series aired in foreign markets (at least 180 of them) beginning March 2009 -- prior to airing on its originating network (CTV) in its originating market (Canada) in June 2009.
NBC announced that it would wrap up the series early (as of July 23, 2009) due to poor ratings. The remaining five installments of the 13 episode order would be streamed online. CTV spokesman Scott Henderson said the Canadian network would continue to air The Listener in its regular time slot. He added any decision about renewing the show for a second season “is way far in the distance. We are not at a point to make a decision on it.”
