A widow and her kids form a band , hire a nervous manager and travel all over making music and having a ball.
Widow Shirley is first seen working as a teller at a bank. Her children Keith, Laurie, Danny, Chris and Tracy form a band in their garage, but when the lead singer doesn't show up it's mom who fills in. Thus is the birth of the Partridge Family. Danny enlists Reuben Kincaid as their manager after harassing him into listening to a demo tape. After signing a contract they start building an act featuring the singing and songwriting skills of heart throb Keith and the blended harmonic voices of the others. Their pop sound is an immediate hit and record sales increase and touring begins.
The family is made up of attractive mom singer/keyboardist Shirley, heart throb singer/guitarist Keith, sexy activist Laurie, the hilarious money hungry bass player Danny, drummer Chris and percussionist Tracy. The neurotic Reuben Kincaid takes the role of the manager.
The group travels the country in their psychedelic painted bus. Later episodes has them traveling overseas. The family goes through the normal teenage problems while trying to make a success with their new found career. But all in all they enjoy making their music and having a ball.
Shirley's memories of a high school romance are stirred when Navy Capt. Charles Corwin arrives in town. She sees the Captain's picture in the newspaper and recognizes him as "Cuddles," an old flame. When Keith and Danny overhear part of a phone conversation, they think Capt. Corwin has a girl in every port, and their mother will get hurt.
