When John Boy wins a newspaper contest, he has the opportunity to cover the landing of the Hindenburg and interview a German immigrant for his newspaper. However, when he and the other onlookers attempt to save the passengers of the airship, John Boy soon realizes that he is unable to find the words to form an article to put in the paper. While this is happening, Curt finds that his new family is severely cutting into the time alone he would like to spend with Mary Ellen. When John and Olivia share that when they were first married, that they had the same problem, they suggest placing a potted plant outside their door to signify time they would like to spend alone. Mary Ellen and Curt soon go home to try this idea out to see if it can work for them.
