John McIntire would later join the series as a regular after the death of star Ward Bond. Interestingly enough, his character in this episode and his later character both had the last name of Hale.
Robert Horton does not appear in this episode.
Hale: (to Adams) I'm a man accursed. I must not inflict my cares upon you.
Hawks: (about Hale) Boy, he's a strange duck.
Hale: You don't know who I am, where I came from.
Adams: That's your business, my friend, and your problem. If there is a problem.
Mrs. Anderson: What is there if you don't believe?
Hale: For me, there is nothing.
Garrison: You don't have to be unpleasant, Major, just because you're sick.
Adams: You get sick your way and I'll get sick mine!
Hale: You're in no condition to lead a wagon train.
Adams: Then maybe I'll just let you lead it.
Hale: I was a minister of the gospel at one time. Now I have no God and no flock.
Adams: I don't believe that.
