Southern Fresh

Fresh, healthy food is a passion for Tim Haas and Jan Kirby, co-hosts of Southern Fresh. Using an inviting style and a splash of humor, they will teach viewers how to prepare Southern cuisine that is delicious and good for you. Each show highlights one ingredient grown in the garden that is transformed into delicious and appealing recipes.

Tim and Jan are natives and lifelong residents of Western North Carolina and wanted their series produced in their home state so they could share its beauty and culture. The programs are produced at various locations throughout the state, giving viewers a glimpse of some interesting sites and people. The series will also show that healthy ingredients are found beyond the typical backyard garden. The “garden” can be the ocean, a mountain stream, a field of flowers, a wheat field, and more.

Tim Haas is a self-taught chef. He has practiced his passion for gourmet cooking for more than 20 years, sharing his original creations with friends and family. Jan Kirby is a master gardener who enjoys growing everything - from fruits, herbs, and flowers to vegetables and vines. Together, the life-long friends create something special.

Tim and Jan also have a passion for fresh herbs that led to three celebrated cookbooks: Herbal Impressions (out of print); Basil to Thyme; and The Herb Garden Gourmet, published by Source Books. Some recipes from the book are prepared on the show.

Each program is a flavorful excursion. One show begins in a colorful pumpkin patch where Jan shows how to grow pumpkins and select the best one. Tim prepares a pumpkin chili, curried pumpkin seeds and a “Harvest Pumpkin Cheesecake.” Other programs will feature a Carolina pig-picking, strawberries, edible flowers, and much more.
