The Strain renewed for a third season

FX has today confirmed that horror series The Strain will return for a third season.

The series is based on del Toro and Chuck Hogan's novel trilogy of the same name and follows humanity's battle against ancient vampires for control of the planet.

FX president Eric Schrier said: "Guillermo and Carlton have delivered two thrilling seasons of The Strain that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process."

The current season can be seen on FX on Sunday nights at 10pm.
