Construction Problems hit 'Coronation Street' Set

In 2010 ITV announced that it would be relocating its Northern operations to MediaCityUK based at Salford Quays, including soap Coronation Street. The original time frame would of seen the show move to it's larger production scale by 2013, however it has now emerged that structural issues have delayed the move.

As concrete was poured onto the base of the site, the frame began moving. ITV were quick to dismiss any risks of collapse and have said that the delay will only be minor;

"ITV's construction manager, Mace, confirm they are managing a construction issue on the new Coronation Street site, which has resulted in a slight delay to the build. Construction of the main building and the Coronation Street lot continues uninterrupted, as does production of the show at the current Quay Street site, and we remain on track to begin ITV's move to the new Media City UK base in the autumn."

The construction company Mace said;

"Mace confirm that work is in progress to identify the most appropriate strategy to remediate the steel frames of the partially built stage areas of the Coronation Street production facility."

The old set was recently refused listed building status by the English Heritage however they were keen on the idea of fans coming to visit the site and it been used as a tourist attraction as it was between 1998 and 2001.
