Joshua Jackson Added to Showtime's 'The Affair'

Showtime will have Joshua Jackson fill the final role of the main cast for ‘The Affair.’ Earlier this month the show cast Maura Tierney, and previously named Dominic West and Ruth Wilson.

According to Variety, Jackson will play “a hard-edged cowboy” who manages a ranch that has been in his Long Island family’s possession for many years. He is married to Allison (Wilson). His life is turned upside down when Allison meets vacationing Noah (West), and engages in an affair.

Ruth WilsonThe show will flip flop between male and female perspectives of the affair, showing how the affair creates problems for everyone involved.

Jackson is best known for his role as Pacey on ‘Dawson’s Creek,’ and for his young role in ‘The Mighty Ducks.’ Last January wrapped the run of ‘Fringe,’ where Jackson spent five seasons on Fox.

“Hard-edged cowboy” does not make me immediately think of Joshua Jackson, but add some more scruff and a hat and we will see. He also does not back down from trying different roles, as he once auditioned for Christopher Nolan’s 'Batman Begins,' losing the role to Christian Bale. Is it mere coincidence that a few days after Ben Affleck is cast as the new Batman, Jackson finds a new role immediately? Alright, I have no basis for any conspiracy theory, and I’m just adding more fuel to the fire for my own amusement.

Do you think Joshua Jackson fits well with this core cast for 'The Affair'?

To be honest, Joshua Jackson is too... soft to play any tough role. Even when he was playing a bad-ass Peter Bishop in Fringe, he's still very much the "cute boy next door" type. But ugh, we'll see, I guess.
