Leonard Goldberg


First as a network programming chief, then as head of a major television studio, a partner with Aaron Spelling and now with his own production company, Leonard Goldberg is responsible for some of the most successful programming on television. With Spelling, he had three series on television in "Fantasy Island," "Hart to Hart" and "T.J. Hooker." He produced the television features "Paper Dolls" and "This House is Possessed." Goldberg, a native of Brooklyn, is a graduate of Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career in broadcasting at ABC in the research department and later left to join Batten, Barton, Durstine and Osborne Advertising Agency. He rejoined ABC in 1963 as manager of program development and was named programming chief in 1966. He left ABC to become vice president in charge of production for Screen Gems (Columbia Pictures Television) and it was under his aegis that the Peabody Award-winning "Brian's Song" was produced. He and Spelling formed their partnership in 1972 to produce such hits as "The Rookies," "Starsky & Hutch," "Charlie's Angels" and "Family." In the theatrical motion picture field he produced "All Night Long," "Baby Blue Marine," "The Bad News Bears In Breaking Training" and co-executive produced "California Split." For broadcast 1982 fall he produced the movies, "Deadly Lessons" and "Something About Amelia." He produced the very successful theatrical release, "War Games."
